OK, I just installed TP into a fresh installed 2.0.7 site

Now for the question........

I had to do the edit to the file manually because it claimed not to be uploaded, yet there it was in site/host/file manager and in ftp

but each time I edited the darn thing it would go poof

it kept disappearing so after around a dozen reuploadings of it/editing I finally gave up. the file is uploaded without the needed edit and the portal seems to be working

but do anyone have an idea why it disappeared?

Not certain, how you tried to install the TP, but did you do this through the package manager?

Please give some details on how you installed the TP portal? and what errors if any did you get during the install?

regards,
Maxx

Yes I used package manager to install TP that is available at SMF forum area since my zip corrupted on my comp. It said that the file was not able to be edited due to it not being there. I checked through ftp and the file was there and I edited it -- saved -- tested the package installer again and same error.

checked ftp and it was showing even after a refresh so checked with another comp and it was not there.

finally had to use her control area at host/ file manager to upload the file but when I edited it -- saved and reloaded the page the darn file was MIA again.

It did not matter what computer, ftp program or her control are I used once it got edited, it disappeared after saving it.

Here I'm not certain what to think, very strange, unless you are uploading an infected or corrupted file?

But looking at your site I see TP is installed!
If you found the solution, please let us know what it was.

That is what makes it so weird, TP is installed but without the edit to that file.

TP seems to be working right but as yet we only have the side blocks and shout box turned on...and some front page blocks

But as I said the file disappears totally if edited -- even from a fresh downloaded zip.

I just uploaded the file from the SMF zip and left it as is without edits and that allowed it to remain on the server.

She has had several anomolies with this host.

Do you have a Cpanel on your host? can you get into the file manager to see if the file is there and what permissions are set. or if you can even find the file there?

Did you try and earlier TP version before this last?
Could you check with host to see what's up, after you check the above!

yes the file is there in file manager and set to 604, not 644 or 666 like the edited ones are. See with a number like that its no wonder the darn thing is naughty. :P

I tried the current version of TP, the one just prior to 2.0.7 of SMF .

Angel, If you can't save/modify/edit a file on your host, you should ask your host what the problem is. The only modification I think we make to that file makes it so that queryless url's will work with TP IIRC.

Sorry for the delay....internet went out and had to take modem to ISP and get a new one.

I am going to try that file again after changing the perms to 644 vs 604 and see if it will stay put. If it goes away again then I will have her ask them so they can figure it out or let us know what the issue is.

Other than that the portal seems to be functioning at full capacity.

Owner also had to go in and reassign a new password to the database/phpmyadmin and now when I upload something it stays put too.
She said it was strange too cause she also had to use the control areas ftp part to upload things. I needed the pass to the phpmyadmin to check whay another mod would not install plus add 2 tables that were missing and that is when she found out about the password needed.

She said that in the beginning she did not need to log into the php area she just clicked her link/admin and went there.

Theirs is a quirkey set up, up to date with php5 and all but they have the file manager to view your files but a seperate area to upload them with --their own ftp within the control area that looks and acts just like a program would but it did not like me either for uploading a folder....said it was empty.

Thanks for your help.
