Can't add articles, Field 'subtype' doesn't have a default value

Hello there. New install of latest SMF and TP, and I find I can't create new article sections or articles in the Article Manager. When I click to create one, I receive the following error:

Field 'subtype' doesn't have a default value
File: C:\xxxxxxxxxxx\Sources\TPortalAdmin.php
Line: 404

Anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? I've tried keyword searches on SMF and TP's forums, plus Googling, and turned up nothing useful.

Download the manual db install file from the downloadsection and upload it to your forum root.
Point the browser to the file and update the DB.
Then through phpmyadmin, open the db and make a repair on all the tables.
