Hello,
First post here...

Have installed Tiny Portal and everything is responding smoothly to how I want it. However, The usernames @ tp Shout have the same color as body text. I don't see anything in the shout settings that reflect username color or avatars for shoutbox. ie, as the sb shows at this site.

Hi.

What you'll need to do is grab a copy of TPShout.css from your themes/default/css folder.

In that file there's a section that you can Un-comment out so it will play nicely with dark themes.  Un-Comment that section of code out, and place that copy in the css folder of your dark theme.

Find
/*.bubble { background-color: #888; }
.bubble:after { content: '';
position: absolute;
border-style: solid;
border-width: 0 10px 8px;
border-color: #888 transparent;
display: block;
width: 0;
z-index: 1;
top: -8px;
left: 16px; } */

Remove the comment from the beginning and end so it looks like this.
.bubble { background-color: #888; }
.bubble:after { content: '';
position: absolute;
border-style: solid;
border-width: 0 10px 8px;
border-color: #888 transparent;
display: block;
width: 0;
z-index: 1;
top: -8px;
left: 16px; }

Looking at thecss and don't see any specific lines to 'uncomment'. The only comment feature I see is at the top heading. Forgot to mention that even with the lighter SMF default theme the usernames are still same color as body "middletext" as stated in css.

Afer

I think we were both writing at same time - just saw your css lines... will try it.

Yes sorry, I was editing my reply with the code when you replied. Thought it would be more helpful to show the section of code I was talking about.  Fingers crossed it should work for you.  ;)

After adding the code you might have to press Ctrl+F5 on your keyboard to see the changes.

Afer

ok - uncommented and place in dark theme css folder and still the same.

was doing the same when I tried it with the light theme before too.

lurkalot

OK, can't see your site without logging in.  Can you PM me a test account please.

I removed your login details just in case someone else get hold of them. Remember everyone can read these posts. ;)

Your shoutbox looks like this to me. Is it the same for you?  Very strange.  What shoutbox settings do you have.  I can't actually use the shoutbox either I'm guessing the member test isn't allowed.

...but you should be able to see the add shout area @ bottom also.

lurkalot

No I can't, did you change something since I posted? Your site looks in pretty bad shape now.

Log out and look at the forum, I see this.  ???

Afer

yes I just added guests to view in case you were having issues seeing it... will uncheck it.

lurkalot

That shouldn't make your site look like that though, there's some issues that need sorting out first methinks.

Afer

it should be back to normal now.

all looks fine...

It's back to how it was, but normal isn't quite the word I'd use. Something is wrong.  Is this free hosting you're using? Set me up a admin account and I'll take a look.  Don't just set the tester one as admin though, because someone might already have access it. PM it to me, if you still can't PM, then let me know.

Thanks.  Ok had a play on there. It appears there is a bug in the shoutbox when using the optional layout.  This was designed to be a bit more minimal and take up less space by removing the bubbles. The usernames should still be linked to the profiles as in the first layout.  Also noticed it adds scrollbars where the first layout doesn't.

Tested it on here and it's the same as yours. Thanks for pointing that out, and sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully we can sort this out.

Afer

yes, even with the bubbles the usernames aren't showing up with correct colors... and without bubbles they revert to the 'middletext' color.

I like tinyportal best compared to the other portals tho - hope it gets corrected.

Will be on the lookout and thanks for the close attention and the help  :)

i dont think it is a bug, but as it is more minimal this was removed as part of that. it may be something that can be looked into and changed but not sure how many actually use that layout to make it worth the effort to change it.

Thanks illori.

I think people tend to use this layout stretched across the page, more of a chat thing. I'm not sure when the profile link was removed from the posters username, I'm pretty sure it was there originally when Brad added the second layout.  The thumbnail image for that layout also suggest this, by showing the group colour on the username.
I use Simple color SimpleColorizer on all my sites and on here too and that seems to be the only pace that doesn't pick it up.  The SimpleColorizer works fine with default shoutbox layout.

Edit:  For what it's worth, and I know it'll never happen. I still believe TP could do with a dedicated chat sys, which can run independently from the shoutbox.  Especially handy for team discussions or that kind of thing.

lurkalot

Also. forgot to mention tis bit. If you look at the shout edit page, the usernames take on the link and the group colour regardless of what shoutbox layout you use. So it would be good to have this consistent throughout imo.

Afer

the simple colorizer mod works with shout as long as the 'bubble' is activated - without bubble active, it doesn't affect the username colors at all. The bubbles look fine but take up a lot of room in the window imo.

Yep, exactly.  I'm just curious as to when it stopped working on that layout, I'm convinced it used to at some point.  That second layout was added to TP1.1 and I tested TP1.1 locally and it's not working in that either.  So either I'm wrong and it never worked, or it did at some point during testing.

TPShout.template.php

<div class="shout_options">
' . $row['realName'] . ':

Code (replace with) Select
<div class="shout_options">
<a href="' . $scripturl . '?action=profile;u=' . $row['value5'] . '">' . $row['realName'] . '</a>:

also
<div class="shout_date">'. date('M. d Y - g:ia', $row['value2']).'</div>

Code (replace with) Select

<div class="shout_date">'. timeformat($row['value2']).'</div>

now the timeformat will show what the user has selected and not the default that was defined for this.

i dont use that colorize mod but this uses the same code as the other layout so it may fix that issue as well.

Thank you illori, that's spot on.  O0

Afer

illori, I will try your suggestion and see.

...this morning I adapted a workaround for what I needed.

1. ucommented all bubbles.

2.select bubbles @ settings.

the result is the standard look with all user colors and avatars. (I shifted date to right &  color)

Add after suggested fix:
THank you illori - that worked for me as well :D
