Hi

I liked TinyPortal very much, and really hope to get it working on my forum, but I'm having a little problem with the installation. I'm running SMF 1.1.13, Default theme. I'm getting a blank page for the settings.

I have tried the method by Zetan on this thread http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,16355.0.html , unfortunately I'm unable to solve this.

Things that I had done

  • For my server settings -> Default
Forum Language it is changed to English-Utf8
I have downloaded the English-Utf8 from SMF website

QuoteUpdated version to 1100
Updated access field of blocks
Update featured article
Converted variables table for utf-8
Converted tables for utf-8
Converted shoutbox table for utf-8.
TinyPortal's table structure is now installed/updated.
Thank you for trying out TinyPortal!

But when I go to "Settings and Frontpage", all the its' a blank page, without the selection buttons. Please see the picture attached.

Also, under my "Forum Error Log", I have this error
Database Error: Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'ifnull' file: /host/tp-files/tp-modules/TPShout/Sources/TPShout.php
Line: 495

The forum also broke down, and unable to load to the index.php. However I still have access to the Admin Center

I'm using the following mods

   Mod Name   Version
1.   Avatar Verification    1.4.2     [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
2.   cbi, 1.0    1.6.3   [ Apply Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
3.   Board Message Icon    1.0   [ Apply Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
4.   TinyPortal    1.102     [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
5.   Pretty URLs    1.0RC5     [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
6.   Aeva Media    1.4c     [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

The illegal mix of collations is a database problem. A quick search for that error should show you several posts on what to do to fix that.

The missing text is either because you are missing the language file or something is wrong with your language file. Not much we can do without looking at it if you can't figure it out. If you'd like me to look I'll need a temp admin account and FTP access to check the files.

Hi IchBin

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it because my SQL got corrupted after the installations? My original installation was in UTF-english.

I searched gone through all the relevant threads and found that this thread may have my solution http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=32494.0   , in the post by tweakNB , however I can't find the SQL codes to edit (after logging to my host->PhpMyAdmin )

Forgot I had an account here!

I came across this problem myself with TP Beta 5 and then with 5-1, after editing the source to fix it I finally found a chance to fix it properly.

Make sure that the collations of your database and tables are all the same, I found a mix of both utf_unicode_ci and utf_general_ci throughout my SMF install, once all were changed to just one (in theory just the tables in query need it but worth doing them all for later issues) it'll work fine.

So, basically, make sure all your tables are the same collation or it'll cause errors like you had.

Hope this helps!

I'm really a dummy when it comes to coding, hope that someone can point me in the direction, or the codes so that I can get this working. I believe that once I made the changes to this 2 tables (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) , I'll be able to see the text and disable the shoutbox. I have copied all the necessary UTF-english files, and renamed some when its' not available from a particular mod.

The text should show up already with the english-utf8 files. If it is not, check to make sure the files on your server aren't corrupted or zero in filesize.

Well he said he never did restrict any permission on my phpadmin would be kind to have look at it if send you info...

Trying with my host to see if they can change the tables for me :)

My english-utf8 files are ok, but I have replaced them with a fresh downloaded copy from SMF. I still can't see the text. Do you think the tables could be causing the problems?

I'm not sure if my database screenshots will be useful for you, but I'm attaching it - just in case.

Seems like I found the place to make the default for the mysql server to uft8_unicode_ci. (see picture attached). But I'm very worried  :-\ about causing more potential problems with my other existing databases.

sona67

Just an update, I took the risk , and changed it to uft8_unicode_ci. (for the sql-master switch). However, when I go to my database, selected those tables with  uft8_general_ci, I still cannot make it to  uft8_unicode_ci

What other things can I try ?

IchBin

If you can't change the collation on the tables, you need to speak with your host to see why.

Thanks  IchBin! Problem solved, you had been great help! :)
