I'm using TP on two forums I'm hosting, and I end up with the same issue on both. Each uses a DIFFERENT template, so I don't think it's template-related.

When I activate the "Use Intro Text" function for the front page article, sometimes it works, and sometimes, when the User clicks on "read more," nothing new comes up.

What should I do?

lebisol

I would start with clearing cache and cookies then toggle the feature.
Also, check the options for the article itself.
All the best!

IchBin

A link to what you're talking about would be good.

designguy

Well, the site is at http://jayceeforum.com/smf/index.php

The front ARTICLE, I tried to split up into an Intro and stand-alone page when you click on "more."  I can re-create the issue if you like...I'll do that now.

designguy

ehem...well shoot. I guess I CAN'T re-create the error. LOL!

Well, I run into this issue regularly...so I'll describe:

Imagine, if you will, that when you click on "Read More..."  that the page refreshes, HOWEVER, the extended version does not show up.  It just shows the Intro again.   This issue occurs about 50% of the time I set my TP preference settings to "Show Intro."

So, clear cache and cookies?  So, you think the feature may actually be working; it may just be MY browser?  Hm! That makes sense.

Ianedres

The 'Read More' link worked fine for me... opened several times when I tested it.

BTW, the site looks very good.

designguy

Yeah, it's hit or miss, but I think I'll try the idea of dumping my cache...that may be what's causing me to THINK it's not working in other cases.  We'll see!  Thanks for the compliment, I must say, TP is helpful, but I still haven't gotten my head around making the whole design User-friendly yet.   Struggling with usability issues still...I really MUST learn how to make my own templates I suppose.

designguy

AHAH!  Now, it's not working on my OTHER TP site:  http://www.crystallake.net/index.php

The FIRST article - try clicking on "Read More..." and the new page does NOT load up, even though my settings seem aok.  So, wondering what may be causing this?  I tried dumping my cache and cookies...still coming up with Intro paragraph only.

Can you Change the title of the article to not have any special characters as a test? I notice that if you click on the title as well that you can't view the article either. However, if you go to the actual aricle by typing page=26 instead it shows fine. Change the title to this: Meltdown At MCC Trustees Ill Fated Attempt to Regroup

Will do, Ich Bin. Thanks.

WORKS!

You = Genius. Merci buckets.

IchBin

That would mean we have a bug. :) I'll report it to Bloc.

Sometimes it is better to say nothing....goes for both of us.

Lebisol,

PLEASE, I need all the help I can get! Thank you for helping.  The issue was a bug, that when a non alpha-character is entered as a headline, it then won't allow the INTRO article to send the User over to the FULL ARTICLE.

Hope that made sense. For now, I'll stop using anything but alpha characters.

I had used quotes (") as well as colon (:) and dashes (-).

Problem solved. Thank you again.

lebisol

Ok now we are getting somewhere, I can second your problem.
I had issued with Title Goes "here-there" and back
was destrying some of my Querry Titles...as well as what you are experiencing ...I just that that was unspoken 'known' rule so I dumped the title...never thought of it as a bug. :-\
This tile does-work ok  ...so am not sure where
In the middle of desperation I changed the format of cookies stored....that really messed up my perception of URLs as some of the titles did  not refresh for me...(thats why I brought up danm cookies lol)
So for what is worth ur not crazy and alone on this one  ;)
