Basic question on this platform

OK, so I just upgraded to v1.1.2 of SMF - lovin' it :)

...though I've been wanting to add some includes for specific things on the site - mostly, a column on the left or right to add more nav items to link to more "website" style pages

Thus I am lead to TP.

Rumor has it TP can offer me the flexibility I desire to basically transform my forum into more of a portal by allowing me to set up sections in columns along the side of my forum and by allowing me to add some more pages outside of making more posts.

So my basic question is this:

How do I install TP?  I've read through some posts here, and I'm left with the impression that I'll have to hand edit quite a few individual files to integrate TP into my SMF platform...

Please tell me there's a simpler way...

download TP, install it then apply it via your Package Manager in your Admin section, then install a TP based theme... it's THAT easy.

Yes.. it is simply that easy.

You should not have to make manual edits and such unless you fall under some unique situation.  Best results however are if you install TP before any other SMF mods because TP is without a doubt the most complex (read as "has the most stuff in it") mod for SMF.

TP is an SMF mod.  Always install all SMF mods while using the default Theme.

It really is simple :uglystupid2:First make sure you are in default smf theme and there are no errors in the forum error log>admin > bottom left.. Then just download TP to your computer

http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item745

Then go into smf admin and then package manager and click download package from the top menu> then at the bottom> upload the package>then install package.
It will do a self test and pray it does not come back with problemos. :'(
You do not want to do a manual install :-X

Make sure you do all you adding of mods  while in the default theme, and make sure the themes you add are for TP/SMF1.1.2

http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat476

themes are installed the same way
from the left menu in admin. now with tp stuff added.

admin> themes and layout> manage and install> at the top then scroll down and navagate to the file on your computer and upload and install.you must then activate it in tp settings >bottom >check it

Might as well upload a few

There is a theme block that you use to change the themes. you may have to enable it in admin>manage blocks

Immedialtelty download  a backup :2funny:

Hope you didn't already have all that done---lol ;)

Its easyly to do.  You install TP the sameway as a mod...But install TP first then the mods ok....If you have any problems with tp or a few tested come up fail you have to install tp manully by hand...

So dont worry so much lol Ok

Just take your time

Do what they told you too ok.

sportsguy

Thanks gang!  You all make it sound soooo easy. ;)

We'll, we'll see about that, now, won't we. :)

I'll report back when I know how it turns out.

Shadow

Your most welcome. :)
