Anyway i think the code is very nice, i would also like to not have all topics to show at entering.. Should just show all topics starting with A and then have a button named ALL.

Okay. It might take a bit longer to build the page, but likely won't be too noticeable if there are a limited number of topics on the page.

but i can use together "Ã...ž" in "S" tab, "Ä°" in "I" tab, "ÃÅ"" in "U" tab and "ö" in "O" tab.

That shouldn't be a problem.

maybe we can add "others" tab.

Someone else would have to figure that out. I don't know how to do that. I would need to know what the "others" are in order to do the search.

No. I didn't forget. deniz said he wanted it like http://wikkawiki.org/PageIndex which doesn't have numbers. And, BTW, has the "All" at the beginning.

I need you to look over it again and see if there are other changes you want to make. I don't want to have to keep rewriting the code. It's a whole lot easier if I know what you want before I start to write.

We? This is becoming something completely different than an index. I don't think I want to do this. Possibly when I get the rest done, someone else will want to add that.

Logically, that doesn't make sense when you have searching by the first letter of the topic title.

I understand. But that's why I don't like it when people say "I want it just like this." Every time when I make it "just like" what they say they want, they then say they want something different and I end up starting over. I really don't mind writing code for people. I like doing it. But I don't like writing the same code multiple times.

I don't understand. There are no tabs. And I thought you had decided that topic titles that started with signs would sort with the first letter or number. So that the A section might include

"A nice topic"
Another nice topic
(Awful stuff)

first of all thank you very much for your kindly replys.
and i use your usefull script.
after now i want to help improve your code with opinions.

1. my tab means -> "A","B","ALL",...

2. i think to show letters with signs in letter tab is very diffucult.
(to show that two examples ->  a is a topic |  "a" is a topic )
so you should not work this hard job.

3. special chars should add (  "(", "[" , and language specific chars  )

4. rows should limited ( like 50 items)

5. should add "bord name" column

6. numeric topics may collect in one "NUM" tab. like "ALL"..

just ideas.

I've been working on this and I sorta have it, but...

In order to do what you want, I have to have a rather complex MySQL statement and, although it works fine when I run it in phpMyAdmin, whenever I try to run it through SMF/TP, I get the error message "Hacking attempt." That's what it seems to do whenever I have been ... creative , I guess ... with my SQL.

Whatever the reason, there's a real problem with sorting

"A new topic"
An old topic
(a nice topic)

together.

Possibly someone a lot smarter than I am can work it out.
