Bloc, I noticed you just uploaded: "TinyPortal v.0.9.6 - manual install." I have a few questions and wondered if you could help, or if anyone reading could help.
1. How do you run the manual install?
2. How do I make my forum become the index to the entire site? Prime example is tinyportal.co.uk - you're not routed to an "index" page, you instead come directly here.
3. I just updated my forum to SMF 1.1 RC3 and quite a few things were changed, but my main concern is tinyportal. I don't have the option to apply the mod anymore. How do I fix this?
thanks for moving it to the proper board. can someone help me out with these?
OH!! Sorry, i should have posted to :uglystupid2:
1. Manual install = Download the TP V.096 manual install package from the download section. Extract the files and upload them to your forum manually through FTP or Cpanel.
Then download the zip file with the premade files (otherwise you would have to add a lot of code in some of the files manually, but this are done and ready to go) you find in this board (installation) sticky post. Make sure you get the correct files for your version of SMF
When you have done those two steps. Point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php (http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/manual_tp_install.php
Refresh and view your forum with the tinyportl installed.
2. You have that when you have tp installed as default.
3. By following the first answer :)
LoL.
1. I got TP back! Rock on!
2. Does this mean I have to delete the default "index.htm" file I created when I started the website?
3. It's taken some work, but I have restored almost everything now. Almost.
...As a last question.
After manually installing TP again, my navigation menu does not display a "forum" link. What can I do? I mean you can navigate everywhere else, but the moment you do, you no longer have the option to access the forum. You have to click "back" in order to access it again.
take a look (http://www.thirdeyeconcept.com/forums/index.php?action=forum)
Help! :buck2:
someone help!
It should be enough if you just replace the files you have with the files from this zip package here
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=9632.0;attach=6630
Download, extract and then upload and replace the files with the ones you have.
That should make the forum button show up :)
I tried that, but it doesn't work. :-\
Can you try this file
negative. i've uninstalled all my mods; nothing fixes it.
Then all i can suggest to you is to replace all the old files with new ones.
Download the 1.1rc3 update pack from simplemachines.org, extract all the files and upload them and replace all the old files (make backup of settings.php and settings.bak.php in your forum root first, and do NOT remove any files, just overwrite the old ones, then point your browser to the file update.php.
Then download and extract the manuall install package for TP V.096 (link posted in the second reply and follow the steps again) then point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php
This will give you all fresh files again but will keep your content intact
upgrade or update pack?
Ok. I've got everything back now. :D

2. You have that when you have tp installed as default.
I've deleted my original "index.htm" page and when I go directly to my site, I see all my public folders instead of being directed to my TP index page.
Instead of leaving all of that open, I've recreated my "index.htm" page.
Can you assist?
Is there an index.php file in your main directory?
negative
You must have an index.php in your forum root , thats the start file that make all the calls for everything that needs to load up
You might be able to just upload the index.php file from the SMF package. Give that a try and see if it works. If it doesn't, you'll need to delete everything in that directory and start over installing SMF and then TP.
i'll give that a try.
Well, that index.php file only contains the following:
<?php
// Try to handle it with the upper level index.php. (it should know what to do.)
if (file_exists(dirname(dirname(__FILE__)) . '/index.php'))
include (dirname(dirname(__FILE__)) . '/index.php');
else
exit;
?>
...And it won't do the trick. Any advise? See, I've got an active forum and I can't just delete everything.
wrong index.php
Look in the forum ROOT folder
Try this file instead, Upload it to the forum ROOT
Well, it's a new beginning, but now it's giving me the following error:
Warning: main(/home/XXXXXX/public_html/Settings.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/XXXXXX/public_html/index.php on line 44
Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/XXXXXX/public_html/Settings.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/XXXXXX/public_html/index.php on line 44
I'm assuming it can't find the settings page? If that's the case, anything else you can help with?
Looks like you need to start over and install the whole kit and kaboodle again.
Empty everything out of your directory (unless you have some subdirectories that you want to keep that have nothing to do with SMF/TP). Install SMF. Install TP. Install whatever your mods are.
yeah, doesn't sound like something i want to do honestly, not with all the information on the forum as it stands now or as active as it is. this is almost 2 years of material. can i create a redirect maybe? any ideas besides that?
Im not sure what you have done right now.
But eather are the settings.php and settings.bak.php missing totally from your forum root folder or they dont have the correct permissions.
If they are missing (most likly as you didnt even have the index.php file there) download the SMF full install package.
Extract the package and then upload all the files from it to your forum, replace all the other files.
Then download the manual tp package from the download section here, and follow the same steps, extract, upload and replace the files.
then download the premade files from here http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=9632.0;attach=6630
Again the same steps, extract, upload and overwrite
Now to the important part.
Download the repair_settings.php from simplemachines.org (downloads tools) and upload that files to your forum root.
point your browser to the file (http://www.yourdomain.com/smf/repair_settings.php) and follow the steps the file show you.
That will both give you all fresh files on SMF and TP, but also it will keep your DB intact
G6: My forum and all it's contents are installed into a folder called "forums." It's been that way since I first installed SMF and then TP. All files are there, not in my "root" directory.
With your instructions, are you asking me to install SMF and TP into the root directory? If I do this, will it link to the existing data in the "forums" folder or will it be a different forum altogether?
Read again... FORUM ROOT folder
the very place you come when you open up the FORUM forlder is the ROOT of your FORUM
