Title: More flexibility for front page setup
Post by: Jerri Blank on October 06, 2006, 01:17:42 AM
Currently, you can have a featured front page article and set it so that none of the blocks display on the page.  This gives a nice, traditional "home page" look if one wants to avoid the portal look.

However, at least some blocks can't be suppressed if you also want to display posts from one of your forums on the front page.

I suggest a way to suppress all blocks on the front page, regardless of whether there or not there are forum posts displayed.

I love TP!

Thanks,

jb

Then set each block individually to only display on the pages you want. You can have them not display on the frontpage by customizing each block.

If I'm not mistaken, blocks can be set to show either on ALL pages, or just ONE page.  If I'm missing something, though, please let me know.  Thanks. :)

Not if you have them show in an article and then picked a place.

I'm sorry to be dense, but can you explain a little further what you mean?  How could having them show in an article put the blocks everywhere but the home page?

Thanks!

When you create an article you can choose the blocks you want to show with that article. In the blocks settings you can also have them show on other pages. So if you choose to have a featured article on the main page you can choose the blocks to show with the article. I know that this is not exactly what you are looking for, so I'm just giving you more options. More features are planned for blocks.

Good.  What'd be great would be just a simple set of checkboxes that allow you to choose where the blocks will appear, similar to the checkboxes that set view and edit permissions.

Thanks!

A drop-down menu (which is already in TP 0.95) is more ideal especially when you start to get lots of boards like this place.

Except that a drop-down menu doesn't allow you to choose more than one thing.  If you want your blocks in multiple places EXCEPT the front, you need checkboxes.

Multiple Drop down menus accomplishes much more than a ton of check boxes though.

I am looking into adding a option to let the block show on one spot..or NOT in that spot, but everywhere else. Also that a single-spot block will rule out all "normal blocks" that follows panels. So you can add many blocks to left-panel, have an article show left-panel..and then add a block that rule out other blocks, and it will show on its own. You see, currently if you specify a block to an article it shows TOGETHER with the normal left panel blocks. Thats not always desireable.

Are we confused yet lol.. :)

I like this - it's exactly what I was suggesting.

The rest gave me a headache. :)

Thanks for a great product, Bloc.
