Title: Starting in a new location
Post by: MGT_STC007 on September 25, 2006, 08:58:07 PM
Ok I have a forum already up and running with almost 700 members collected in the last year and a half.  I want to start a brand new forum in a new location or URL.  The question I have is how do I take the content of the forum now up and transfer it in to the new forum?

make a coplete backup of your database through php myadmin (export entire DB with tables and all)
it will send the export to your local computer.

Then when you have your new host, import the database there, that way you now have the exact same content, layout, blocks articles, members just like you have now.
Then upload the SMF files (the same version you are using) download the repair_settings.php file from the SMF forums downloadsection (tools) and upload that in the forum root folder, point the browser to the file and let it do the magic, then upload the tiny portal files from the manual install package and run the manual_tp_install.php and it will do it's magic, and you have the forum set up again with the very same content :)

Ok well about 6 days ago I made a back up useing the backup tools in the forum.  Is that all I need to do this?  This is a great opportunity to do this now because I tried to update the old forum and it's corrupt right now from some error.

I need help on this as I'm not sure at all exactly what I need to do to get this new forum filled with old data.

You would want to get a most recent backup so that you aren't missing posts or members etc that have joined since the last backup. Then install the forum as usual making sure to use the same SMF version. Then after that you can go into the admin panel and restore your backup.
