Title: I hate to ask such a newbie question about Blocks, but...
Post by: Jim R on September 25, 2006, 08:05:35 PM
How do I make them active?  I have recently installed TP on a site I'm developing for personal use.  Through my Admin panel, I have messed with Settings and Block Manager.  I have clicked the Activate link for all the blocks, more or less just testing.  I have checked different layouts on the Settings page.

I can't get any of the Blocks to show up except Front Page Blocks.

Thanks for your time.

SMF 1.1 rc3 if that matters.

When you are in the Blocks manager section you will see 2 small circles next to each other

One will be red (https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgoofy-goobers.com%2Fforum%2FThemes%2FTP_Valve2%2Fimages%2FTPred.gif&hash=680d04e0f44c4f0db6b45442073244c670ee3bc1) - next to it is an outlined green circle (https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgoofy-goobers.com%2Fforum%2FThemes%2FTP_Valve2%2Fimages%2FTPgreen2.gif&hash=950ce95bf2dc0ef10c458ca63887beb48a83772c) - click it to activate your block :)

I don't see those circles.  Where should they be?  I just see where it says

Block is off

Dynamic Block
â€Ã,¢
Block can be edited by extra membergroups

No circles and nothing to click on.   :(

Below that you should have a list of your blocks, one per line, with the following columns:

Pos
Title
Type
On/Off/Move
edit/Send
Delete

The green circle should be in the "On/Off/Move" column.

Goto Admin - click the Block Manager from the side menu - you will see the circles - they are next to every block on your portal page. :)

I don't have circles.  I have activate, de-activate and arrows/globe.  I have all of them set to activate, but it still says Block is off in the block headings (Left Block, Right Block, etc.)

I think you are missing the graphics for the two circles.  Sounds like you are seeing the ALT= text of the <img tag.  Those buttons are the activate/deactivate buttons.

Ok...I've copied all the icons over from the default theme to the one I'm using.  All Blocks are now showing green.

Still nothing.   O0

BTW...here is my TP address:

http://www.spieceselect.com/smfsp/index.php

It shows the Front Page Block but not the Right or Left side Blocks.

Its not showing the TP credits either

I think your TP didnt install properly

You may want to download the manual install files
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat5

And try a manual install.

Also try and uninstall TP via the package manager first and tell me if you get any errors

I am no expert and this may not be your answer, but is worth a look see.

G6, remember when I had this same problem?  The solution was change your theme to SMF, default theme. Then go to your front page and see if you don't have the show/hide buttons close.  Open them. If this is your problem, you will have both right and side blocks showing.

I do not understand why, but if the hide buttons are close in the default theme, then when you have any other theme install, these show/hide buttons are missing.

I hope this helps.

Marian,

That worked, but are we saying I can't use TP with my theme of choice?

I guess I'll try the manual install.

You have to find the theme that has been converted Jim. Take a look in Crips board I think he has that one converted.

Where can I get the Smileys that are in this forum?

I saw something on SMF about 297 smileys, are the ones here part of that list or a separate file?

Thanks.
