Here is a demo of the editor: http://www.cutesoft.net/asp/EnableAll.asp
I have tested it and tested it trying to break it by adding and removing normal stuff and code. Everything seems to work as it should. be sure to take a look at the possiablities with the images...
Here is what it is compatiable with: IE 5.5+, Firefox 1.0+, Mozilla 1.3+, Netscape 7+ and Safari (1.3+). This includes Macintosh and Linux. No opera though.
The editor isn't free, it costs money and is a bit expensive. However, it does offer a redistribution license in which you can add it to TP and redistribute royality free. Enterprise license is $1399 (yikes).
Here is the licensing info: http://www.cutesoft.net/ASP/license.asp
We could try to raise the money here at TP to pay for it? I dunno, do you think it would be worth it? I do. I just want to see a decent editor for TP...
Can you post comparisons between CuteEditor and TinyMCE, whizzywig and FCKeditor? I avoid working with any of them myself, so I don't know what would be better to use and why.
Personally, I'd still like to be able to make the SMF editor available for articles, but I'm sure that's just me. :)
SMF editor will def. be in..thats something I been missing lately as well. And its good for any plans to for example attach an article to a topic, much like a poll. Also attach a download item to a topic.
I have looked at the cute editor..it seems to resemble HtmlArea 3 or even Xinha (http://xinha.gogo.co.nz/xinha-nightly/examples/full_example.html) quite a bit. The image plugins is afaik also available as free. In fact I seen 2 of these almost identical in Htmlarea3 plugin section - or nowadays Xinha. Pushing out 1400 dollars ( thats 8-9000 in my country's exchange) is just ridicoluos imho.
Ya, I know it's expensive.
I'd rather have the SMF editor, but it didn't seem likely to happen.
I can't stand TinyMCE or whizzywig. HTMLarea3 was discontinued no? I haven't used FCKeditor.
Right now, I think writing articles ist just a pain. A major pain...
I am with you on the editors choices we currently have.
I recently bought wysiwyg pro for my Joomla site and its awesome, as it should be for 50 buck! they also have a similar license agreement.

I will certainly look into other editors, there are many of them.

But PLEASE allow it to be user turned off for straight html and straight css. I personally can't stand any of the editors and prefer to do my own html/css inside blocks
I looked at about 73 editors.
cute editor and fckeditor were the best and highest rated editors. Cute cost too much, and fck is too big.
As long as it
