Title: I guess I am stupid, lol
Post by: separoth on September 12, 2006, 10:40:41 PM
Ok, this is my first adventure with portal software, I love SMF, but never wanted to switch software for the portal feature.  Today, I found TinyPortal for the first time and fell in love, lol..

I installed TP 0.9.5 through the package manager, and I am starting to understand how to make changes and such, but no matter what I try, I can never get the main mage to display the left, center, and right blocks correctly.  The only way I can figure out to even get to my forums is to set the frontpage to directly go to the forum index, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having TP installed.

I think I am just setting the "What to show on front page:" option incorrectly.  If someone could give me a couple pointers on what I need to set so I have the left, Center, and Right block zones on the frontpage, I would appreciate it..

I am not very good with PhP, so I hope I won't have to script it out, lol.. The other thing that I need to get into one of the blocks to have a link to the forum index...

I'd appreciate any help that you can give me...

Thanks

Separoth

Admin>Tiny Portal>Article Manager>Ã,  Open the article and select "Edit visual options for the article"

The you will see where to show what with that article.

If you want to feature an article, select Edit article in full and set it to Featured.

Select Admin>Tiny Portal>Settings>Front Page and select what you want.

To be a little more specific, my goal is to have a specific forum posts in the center, with blocks on the left and right with different options and statistics.  When I activate the default article, and have it show left, right, and center blocks, there is still only the article there.  No blocks...

And to be just a little more specific, the layout of these forums would work just fine too, all the blocks on the left, with the forums on the right... I just want a frontpage that will have a section that has current news on it.

Are you sure you have a TP enabled theme active?

Normal themes for smf will *not* show the blocks and behave as you described

Also if you put a link to your site and we could see what you are describing that might help troubleshoot as well.

I am working on it now, I will post the link, but you may not see what my problem is, because these are functioning forums, and I'd prefer not to have too much down time.

I am using a World of Warcraft inspired Theme, and I downloaded the same theme for TP, but I haven't been able to find a place to install the TP theme, I installed it into SMF, but I am not sure if I set TP to use that theme or not.

Just for trouble shooting, I have made the settings to show single page, and have activated the default article, which has show left, center, and right blocks enabled, but this is what it comes up with...

Ok, it was the theme that was causing the troubles, I tried using the TP WoW theme, but it doesn't work right, you loose the background, and most the images.  I am using RC2, and 0.9.5, but it still doesn't work.. I dunno, lol.. But I appreciate your help Keelar and Nokon..
