Cool a Dell Inspiron Laptop. I got one too but it's way older than 2 years...let's just say it's a Dell Inspiron 2500. :\
PS:You may laugh now...
I have a dell that's 12 years old, it's still functioning well on win nt, I don't know if a processor is inside, sounds more like a starfighter (with afterburner)
This dell has something that modern computers don't have : a 3.5" disk drive and that comes in handy sometimes.

The maxtor diamond 10 crashed suddenly last month, I replaced it with a raptor 74 GB and a 250 gb (also wd)
Because of this crash I decided to make a server from an old medion I had, 4 x 232 Gb seagate in raid 5, windows xp and xampp (I use xampp for mailserver, ftp server and for testing my sites)
I also installed gigabyte lan.
Then I have a medion with pentium 4 that I use as movie server, and when the sun is shining I go outside with my compaq, I don't even know what's all inside, an amd processor and 100 gb hd that's what it says.

wow..I feel a bit "under-specs" here LOL ;D
Got an custom built AMD Athlon 2.2 ghz with 512MB, a DVD burner, CD-reader, 40GB hardisk(yes, I do burn backups a lot :) ), old HP 6200 scanner, old HP Deskjet printer and a 64 MB Radeon 9200 card..thats it.
On the software side its perhaps a bit more exciting.. windows 2000 with an assortment of progs, but the ones that start up everyday are Firefox/Thunderbird/Photoshop 7/Bitcomet/Antivir guard/EasyPHP webserver/PHP Expert editor/Sygate firewall/Winpatrol and Winamp...
Other often used progs are Faststone Image Viewer/Trillian/Skype/Beyond Compare/Nero and WS_FTP.
All the tools I need.

Yeah it does. 20 minutes and it goes...................
I use a Casio Calculator to access the net and thats my PC :2funny:
Ok just kidding
My PC specs are exactly the same as Alans but mine is a Toshiba Satellite Laptop
Tyan K8WE
Dual Opteron 275s
8x1gb Corsair XMS ECC
powercore mkII and Lynx TwoB
7800GT
4 Seagate 750 7200.10 annd 2 BenQ DW1655 Burners.
Slackware 11pre and winxp64
I should add that I do studio recording at home as my paycheck.
My regular system is an Athlon x2 3800 on a MSI K8N Plat w/ 2gb OCZ Plat & an x800xt running Slack 10.
Sweet.... Nice system Crystallas. And a linux lover too? SCHWING!
Linux is critical for multimedia work. Windows and Mac like to inteligently do things for you at times, which isnt nice when you sample critical files, and they add some kinda tag to them for handling w/o your knowledge, then you lose something from the original when it changes compression to an apple or microsoft certified codec instead of the one that you need to use.
in short.... Thanks IchBin :)
Mine is a custom one with 2.5 years old...
WinXP Pro
2.66 GHz Intel P4
1 GB Kingston RAM
80 GB samsung harddisk
128 MB nvidia
on-board sound card
19" Hyundai ImageQuest Flat CRT
keyboard, mouse, 4+1 creative 440 sound system etc...
This configuration is far from being enough for me. I'm using 800 GB RAM and 75% CPU in idle time :o Think about my peak time!
This is what I'm planning to buy this year to match my needs:
WinXP Pro or Linux Kubuntu
Intel Dual Xeon 3.2 (x2 CPUs = 6.4 Ghz)
2 GB or 4 GB ddr2 RAM
256 MB graphics card (whatever brand)
2 x 160 GB hadrddisk (more than enough for me, I'm not a video guy)
21" Monitor, probably Hyundai or LG
At least 6+1 speaker system (I'm a music guy)
Dual Keyboard (just kidding :P)
Hehe, I used AMD Opteron :)
I have 5pcs and 2 laptops from 800 durons to 3.2 P4 ;D between them they have some of everything from 4mb pci graphics to satalite tv. And what do I use 'em for....fiddling with php in a text editor :) What a waste of ÂÃ,£Ã‚Ã,£Ã‚Ã,£
Mostly use a 1.7 athlon and a 1.2 athlon as they have caddys, I think around 15 seperate harddrives from 8gb to 80gb and various Op systems, 2000, 2000 server, 2003 server, XP pro, Suse Linux, all setup in different ways :) depends what Im fiddling with at the time :)
Its like today I think I'll have 2003 server and linux clients, pick the drives, slot them in and bootup, fiddle, get bored, turn them off ;D
Windows Edition: Windows Vista(TM) Ultimate
Processor: Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00GHz
Memory: 2,00 GB Kingston DDR2 667Mhz

About a year ago I built mine.
Windows XP Corperate.
Althon XP 64 3400+? I forget...
2gig Ram
80GB sata (was a 350).
680 watt power supply.
Radeon 8600 XT
2 dvd burners
rom
2 foot long black lights.
20 or more led's.
12 custom fans
Control panel for sound temp and sound.
Custom grills
Blah blah blah....
I won't even go into accessories. I'm too lazy to type. I do have some old photos, but I have added alot more since these such as strobe lights, lighted feet, lazer lights, etc:
It matches my living room see?
That's my PC, desk and moniter on the left beside the TV. Of course I don't live there anymore either...
Now all you need is a glittery disco ball man. lol
i'd think i'd have a seizure if i had to sleep in that room.
I have an windows for workgroups machine with a 56k of ram, 12' crt monitor. 50 meg hard drive.
I just upgraded from a compact toaster model, which had no hard drive just two 5.25 inch floppy drive. I sure do miss the games of "pong" Oh well I guess thats progress
I've been working with 16 bytes of memory recently, which is lots of fun :)
i remember when i was a kid, we had an Apple II
man the games on that thing were the bomb lol
Thought i would show my oldest sons PC, he is in to both airbrush painting and (hm, dont know the English word :-\ ) They have sandpapers on a little machine and then polish the cases to diffret patterns, The images are on Dennis new case Kevin been working on :) Dragon Box. And the external harddrive is mine :) Thats the first Kvin did with the "polish" machine :)
wow, those really look cool. :)
Sort of harddisk case styling - like in styling a car. ;D
wow pretty cool designs
those could be a big seller if marketed and distributed properly

Well, I assume we are just talking about "active" computers, and not ones locked up in closets that are not being used.
Therefore, I have 3 servers (2 production, 1 test) and 10 workstations (8 desktops, 2 laptops). Twin gigabit networks, twin WAN networks (1 cablemodem, 1 dedicated line). Two 802.11N Draft spec wireless routers (both Netgear Rangemax Next WNR854Ts), Three 802.11a/g wireless routers (2 hooked up as a wireless bridge for the XBox ;) ) One Terabyte NAS, with a 2 Terabyte NAS about to be ordered next week. To list the specs on each computer would wear out my fingers. ;)
I will say the slowest desktop is a 2.6 Ghz Pentium, second slowest is a 3.06 Ghz Pentium. I have a few dual core Pentium desktop boxes in the mix, the laptops are 2 Ghz and 2.33 Ghz dual cores. Six different LCD panels, no desktop has less than 2Gig RAM, or less than 500G of drive space (except one that has a single 250G drive). Three desktops have 1T of internal drives.
hmm.. I have pix of 1 of the production servers and of the test server... and one of the networks, oh.. and my TeraStation.
WOW !!!! Thurnok , What could you possibly need 10 workstations in your house for!! What would your best Desktop specs be?
Oh and forgive me for my ignorance but whats a NAS ?
NAS - network-attached storage
ah ok thanks Max
Well, fastest non-dual core desktop I have is a P4 3.8Ghz. Fastest dual core I have is a PD 940 (3.2Ghz). I plan to upgrade one of my slower boxes by end of year to a PD 950 (dual core 3.4Ghz).
I have so many because I support various client's networks and keep various ones setup for testing issues they may run into from time to time. Proactive work, versus Reactive work. ;)
i run a 3000+ sempron 1 year 8 months old it has 512 mb of ram 80 gb hz and intergrated gfx. it is a emachines.
i have plans within the next 3 months to build a pc specs as followed
e6600 core 2 duo 2.4ghz 4mb cache as fast a a pentuim d runing at 4.8ghz new acitecture.
2gb of ram ddr2 800
cheapo gfx card until the new one comes out in december.
2x 320 gb hds in raid 0
the new gfx card is suppose to have 64 pipelines and 64 shaders. thats alot compared to todays cards. and it will support dx10 fully :
um lets see now this if off topic but i figure il say something on this forum about it.
i was looking for someone to make a mod that would a second signature. bellow the first. where there are fields to fill in things like someones system specs. that way people on computer/gaming forums can know them ;) if someone is into making this pm me :D
ok back to the rigs.
lets see if someone can beat the rig i plan on building :P
Well I was going to post about my PC but it would just embarrass me in front of you guys.
Oh gu on then well its a flashy box with lights and wires and cables and things in it and I use a thing that you press keys on to put letters up on a glowy thing on my desk. ::)

It seems to have a life of its own but I've been assured by experts that this can not be the case so why does it do things I don't ask it to do and why do I have to keep pressing buttons and doing something called rebooting to make it work. :o
They say it has more memory than me and its much faster which I can believe because now I've hit my 40's I have to write all important dates and things I need to remember on my forhead so I can see it when I look in the mirror. ???
It has something called a mouse and I didn't want it to get lonely so I brought it another mouse but the new mouse ran away because I think it was jealous because I kept on stroking and pressing my old mouse either that or it was a tragic love thang that went wrong. :(

Well my PC is a Mac...
Macpro
Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
16GB (8 x 2GB)
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB (Stereo 3D, two dual-link DVI)
I use OS x 10.5 most of the time, but also Vista and XP for those PC moments using boot camp or parallels.
One thing I will say its the fastest Vista install I have had the displeasure of using...not a Vista fan
I'm sure theres more to it than this but i dunno where to find out... ?

This is from a topic on my site, copy/paste.. I need to upgrade again sometime, and I've not included my laptop either and the PC has had a few upgrades since I took the pics.

this is what my laptop looks like.. it might be looking for a new home in the next few months. it has been a good laptop, and made me really happy but i want a desktop now.. just dont let it hear that!! ;)
My last pc had similar specs to this:
CPU: 8-bit 6507 (1.19MHz)
RAM: 128 Bytes
Colors: 16 (4 on screen)
Game Media: Cartridge
Resolution: 192x160
Sound: 2-channel
:o
holly crap ZTN...Reason v3 is out lol whatever happend to Rebirth?
Man how many horrible-mind-twisting-loops-clockwork-orange-like have I made using that sweet app.
My laptop specs are 1/4 of what most people post...at home "server" runs on 2.0 Ghz 512 of ram about 20 gb internal and 500gb external storage...I don't render, produce, record, game on pc anymore so this is more than enough for Itunes, DW, PS, and a few browser windows.
Good old days I had extra fans with flip switches for manual "extra cooling"...it was like tryign to work behind the lawnmower...it was fun overclocking...
hardware is a nothing more but the brother of the software verson rip-offs
I know Reason 3 is out.. I just haven't got it yet ;) I love that program.. one amazing bit of kit.
As for the fans, do you know how much they drive me crazy? I really need to get rid of them and get a better cooling system and those photos are a few years old now.
lol, my PC is quite embarassing :buck2:
amd 64 x 2 dual core processor 2.41 ghz
western digital sata raptor 140 gig hardrive
2 gigs of matched memory (Geil) DDR2
nvidia 7800+Gt graphics card ddr2 512 inbuilt ram
19 inch sony flat screen monitor
i prolly forgot something but thats mine ;D
Rebirth is still around you know, but Reason 2 or 3 has it own Rebirth module, so its not needed anymore. Still, I think i downloaded Rebirth as a free download once, since its so old and all...
Speaking of Acid5 (wich have been on my pc for some years now lol, amazing simple and great prog), have you tried Renoise? its a tracker, not a soundstuidio, but its so powerful and easy to work with. More like Fruityloops perhaps. Supports both mixing, virtual instruments and effects, as many you can throw at it.
Never heard of Renoise. Rebirth is now a free download at the Propellerhead site, now unsupported.
Recycle I've got, which is Propellerhead/Steinberg collaboration
Acid 5 is awesome, now owned by Sony.. I just love the sample stretching features, simply amazing.
Take any sample beat, and stretch it perfectly to fit any BPM..
I spent a few years studying sound engineering and music tech in London. Never quite got my head around fruityloops.. I played with it for a while, but couldn't get on with it, been a Reason fanboy since version 1.
Not particularly brilliant at music production, but enjoy the toys ;)
