I installed tinyportal manually (Because package manager said it's not a valid package, or is corrupt). Nothing is in the admin panel about tinyportal, or anywhere else for that matter.
The manual installation didn't incldue any directions for modifying files, could this be why?
Compare what you did to what this tells you to do:
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=6771
I read that already.
So, at what point are you having problems?
You don't need to modify any of the files for installation.
If you're trying to install the wrong TP version to the SMF version you have, you usually get a message saying it's not compatable or is corrupt.
What theme are you using when installing TP?
I'm using the theme "Cerberus" with "SMF 1.1 RC2", and the "TinyPortal v.0.8.6 - manual install
155 Kb" version of TP.
Switch to the SMF Default Theme "Core" and see if that helps.
ADMIN >> Themes and Layout >> Set Overall forum default: & Reset everyone to: to "SMF Default Theme - Core".
That made no difference.
There are supposed to be TP settings in the ACP, right? Where are they supposed to be?
The steps needed to be taken to get TP to show up on the manual install..
Just to make sure the 5 steps needed to be taken are infact done ?
1. Download the manual install package ( Done?)
2. Extract the package on your local machine, (Done ? )
3. Upload the files the your forum that is set to SMF DEFAULT theme [Done?)
4. Do the proper changes (cut and paste the code needed to the SMF files) as describes in the manual install text file ( Done?)
5. Point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php from your browser to get the database installed (Done ? )
Another soloution is to delete your forum and put it back in, then use exactly same settings and mySQL databases and tables. Your forums and posts will remain, but things like smilies, arcade games etc. will be waiting to be put back onto your forum. It's quite extreme, but I did it.
Mrs.G6, Step 4 is not conmpleted, because there is no file that says which code to modify.
rctxtreme, that is not an option.
Textfile on what code to change in the SMF files (http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2481.0;attach=1830)
If you dont find the code in your index.template.php, please search for index.template.php for the version of SMF you have, and you will find files already done uploaded here in the forum.
You should only do what I said if you must have TinyPortal above anything else on your forum and you don't mind reinstalling your mods and stuff
Otherwise, I'm no help
I woke up this morning to this error:
QuoteDatabase Error: Table 'smf2_log_online' is read only
File: /home/elitenet/public_html/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 2532
.
This error was not showing last night, and I haven't chanegd anything since. I think it's probably related to TP.
I don't think its TP related. I think your host did something with the file. Ask them to change the file so that it is not read only anymore.
I can chmod files myself. The file is not read-only, the table in the database is. That listed file is where the code that queries that database is.
Can you change the table so it's both write and read ? Or as ichbin said, contact your host and ask them to help you.

The problem is that the table is an actual file in MySQL. You can't alter the read only attribute in your database. This often happens when a host changes the files or maybe even moves the SQL server to a new host. I would suggest you ask your host if its something they can fix. If not, we can go from their. I've searched for a read-only permission in the database and haven't found anything.
I contacted my host, and am awaiting a response.
Thank you
Isn't it great when you actually find something useful, instead of something that stuffs up? ???
My host fixed the problem, and my website is now back up. Once again though, tinyportal does not work. I see nothing related to it, anywhere.
Well you're going to have to be more specific than "tinyportal does not work"..... What have you done since? Did you get any errors? A link to your site? As much info as you can provide us will make it easier for us to help you.
I said that already. There is nothign anywhere on my forums relatign to tinyportal. Nothign i nthe admin panel, no error, the portal isn't there, ntohing.

Give us the server details, please.
I don't see how that's at all relevant, but ok.

I know that if you follow the instructions we give, you WILL have a working TP installed.
Did you follow the steps i wrote 1 to 5 , you said before that you missed step 4, did you follow the directions i gave you in the post after that?
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=7521.10
Your PHP version is up to date, and your MySQL is 0.0.01 versions higher than mine. But TinyPortal works one mine. No other settings that I think will affect your forum, so you might need to perhaps contact your host. Oh, and what's your SMF version? If it's RC2, do you have the RC2 security patch? (Shows up as RC2 in packages)
The SMF verison doesent matter at all for TP. 1.0.7 or 1.1rc2, it will work the same for the package install and manual install
OK... exactly what file(s) show up with a test error?
On the tp install help file it give you codes to put into your forum, where would you put the codes in any of the files and it says a smf version on the bottom like 1.0.5, I wouldnt put that in my index template is a SMF version 1.1RC2
I suggest you eather read the XML file again, and see that it actually cover all SMF versions, or read through the install board on this site and look at the textfile Bloc made out for the manual install
Thank You Mrs. G6

Could you please point me to where the already modified files are? That is if they are safe to use as replacements.
I have the same problem (TPADMIN is not present anywhere) but I'm using the Helios Multi theme. We upgraded SMF to 1.1. RC3 and lost TPADMIN somehow. I have completed the manual install of TP 0.86 process with no errors.
Put this in your bar. Or add index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=settings to the end of your url.
http://yoursite.com/forum/index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=settings
Dont provide support links to some thing they need to register to see.
[EDIT- Saw you changed it...
What are you talking about? It's yoursite.com. :)

Do you have TP admin precent in the default theme?
If the install went well and with out errors, what file do you need to complete the install?
If you have tpadmin in default, i suggest you uninstall helios and reinstall the theme, make sure the forum is set to Default SMF core.

Not from the start, you copied the link from your site so it lead to your site and register to view this page ;)
Why would I do that? ::)
Anyway shawn, just use that url and you'll be set.
Or you can add some code in the index.template.php, but that'll be a little hard for you.

He will be missing the TPAdmin even if he follow that link, he get to admin yes, but the error reported isent solved ;)
He never said he was getting an error, only he couldn't see it.

No, TPADMIN is not present in any theme that I try to set as default. It looks like I have to start editing the files with the chages you provided in the text file instructions.
JPG's little trick didn't work either.
TP_mod-instructions.txt is what I was referring to as instructions.
I admit I am new but not completely lost.
index.template.php // to your default theme directory
index.php //your forum root directory
load.php
ManagePermission.php
Subs.php
All green to your forum/sources
That is the files you copy and pate the code in to. Those are done, so upload them and you should be good to go, Some errors can be there as you using 1.1rc3, but it should work to start the portal
Thank you! I will get started on the changes.

As a noobie website admin, thanks heaps for suppling the modded files. For me just to upload files is... well achievable.
Sounds lame, but I have no confidence editing files directly and getting them right.
I did all that now, I have the box where it says tiny portal in the admin section, but still no options, its blank
Wait a sec, I'm running SMF 1.1 RC3 now, does that have anything to do with it?
Try using the default theme and see if you can edit things. Give it a shot. ;)
Thanks Mrs G6 for all your help. I made all the changes and was able to get back into the TinyPortal Admin. The changes created several other issues with the Helios theme, so I tried the default theme which worked much better. It almost felt like I had contol again but still had issues with the recent posts listing and some bad icons. It also said I was running SMF 1.1 RC2 after the changes.
The site owner didn't like it and wanted it all changed back for now. He mentioned a new release of TinyPortal and possibly the Helios theme, that is suppose to correct everything. So I guess I will wait and try this again later.
