Title: File Zilla
Post by: Crip on August 07, 2006, 03:26:29 PM
I bought CuteFtp Pro several months ago, and Have had some problems with it..might just be me not reading the Help file good enough..? But a few days ago G6 suggested I try Fire Zilla....Never heard of it before that, so i was upgrading my Wordpress Blog this morning and reading all the upgrade instrutions they too also suggested downloading and using Fire Zilla, so I did.

I could not believe how fast it's uploading & downloading were/are..I'm on a broadband connection but CuteFtp Pro was never ever as fast as FZ..I highly recommend it if your doing a lot of uploads/downloads CHMODE'ing files directory's and such..If you want speed like me, get Fire Zilla!!!!! 8)

It's actually called Filezilla, and it rocks. It's fast, easy to use, and best of all, FREE.

I have used filezilla for many years. Ever since I got pissed off with the idea of paying $40 just to upload your files to a server! Besides, the best things in life are open source these days.
;)

p.s SmartFTP is worth checking out too though.

I personally prefer FlashFXP though, but thats the first ftp program i learnd how to use (saw the children use it every day), so sitting with them and see how they did and what they could do i guess got me cought in it :)
We use the ioFTPD from the same developer aswell, and im learning glFtpd on my "old" machine here with linux debian installed. Quite fun when you starting to get some where and understand how it works :)   Also quite like MacOs that i have been using for 10 years on my work now :)

I really can understand the people that are addicted to the computers and Internet  :D

I was using FileZilla for a long time, but it had trouble connecting to my new host, nothing did seem to help, something about protocols and an update not yet made, support not very helpful.

Since then i use SmartFTP. It's freeware too and it rocks!

its such a shame that companies out there are selling FTP clients which SUCK and in comparison we have filezilla which is an excellent FTP program for free!

Jup... comercial ones like ws_ftp are quite good, but SmartFTP or FileZilla are a trillion times less expensive ;)

funny part is filezilla only dropped 2 files once for me out of probably a 1000 times ive used it

other FTP clients trial versions ive used very frequently drop files which is terrible

Drop files? What's the problem? Do they spill on the carpet?

no dropping files means the FTP program will not upload them properly so it 'drops' them or in otherwords the file transfer is not completed

Smart FTP is really good to be free.

However I use a paid version of WS_FTP by Iswitch. It's the best in my opinion.
