Ok, since i asked in another download manager thread and got no answer, here is a topic on it's own for it:

I can make download sections, i can set groups allowed to see the sections.
I can allow groups to upload and i can allow groups to moderate download area.

I want to create a download area where certain group members can look and download, but not upload and another area where those group members can upload. I don't seem to understand how to do it?  :uglystupid2: if i allow a usergroup to do uploads, they can upload to any area they can see...

For those who will ask "why do you need this feature" and not answer until explained:

There is a section where i want to upload beta-test chapters of a game so the testers can get them. There is also an area where people can upload ideas and add-on they have written. I don't want them to be able to upload in the beta-test chapter area, to keep it clean.

Help?

I think the only way to do this right now is for you to create a new group, call the betatesting. And then create the download sections and only add that group to upload and maintain that section

From what I can understand you want three levels

- Level 1. Download only. Just give them access to the appropriate categories. No upload or manage downloads permissions.

- Level 2. Download - upload in certain categories only. Give them access to the appropriate categories. Give upload but no manage downloads permissions.

You can't restrict uploads to a category that they access to but you can control approval. In Downloads Manager Settings in

All uploads must be approved? :Ã,  Check -> Yes, except the membergroups that can manage downloads.

This way you and your cooperators will select the appropriate category (only this group has access) with approval.

- Level 3. Cooperators Give them access to the appropriate categories. Give upload AND manage downloads permissions.

You may also have a Level 4 - Admin only level.

I believe that this way your job can be done.

Yes, right now i set the category where only i can upload to and others can get the material to "must be approved" and i simply will not apporve any uploads. Still a bit ... stupid to have an upload button at all.

They way that's complicated but would work is creating a "download" and an "upload" usergroup. One with full upload allowances but seeing only the parts where i allow uploads, the other one not allowing uploads (only download) seing the rest of the categories. Then I add beta testers to download group, beta-testers allowed to submit ideas to both? Maybe i need a third group so the normal guys can see but not download the tester submitted stuff... but it should be working this way.

(The other problem I started a topic about was slightly different: allowances by post based groups and that i did not understand why those are different from non-post based groups... but that idea i gave up again.)
