"raed it wouthit porbelm"? I wouldn't say that. I had a lot of "porbelm" when I tried to "raed" that. I succeeded, but it wasn't easy. Maybe I don't have a "huamin mnid."

Nah.. It could be just that you are more of an audio person than a visual person.

The real funny thing is, anyone who has known me awhile on here, knows I type like that normally. Ichbin has pleaded with me to use the spell checker :D

I did? I don't recall ever saying you needed the spell checker, but I do recall correcting your spelling. lol I'm just that way I guess. In fact, you and G6 spelled Ostrich wrong earlier lmao. But yeah, I get the point... :D

I wonder what most people would think the word "culod" is. According to the "pvroen rseecrah", no one should have a "pblroem" figuring out what it is, but the fact is that there are two words with those letters. There is actually a reason that there's a standard letter order in words.

I'd like to see the actual research for myself and find out what the method was that they used in the study and what the control was and who the subjects were. Also, what statistical method they used and what the results were. The text in that picture seems to say that it's a universal thing, on the level of "humans are mammals" and it just ain't so.

Personally, I think it was something that was made up to try to justify poor spelling. But then, I tend to be a cynic. :)

It's just a point that people read words, not the letters for everything in a sentence.

Same goes for scimming a paragraph.

The point is, though, that it's *some* or maybe even *most* people read words and not letters. But not *all* people do. The way it's presented implies that no person on the planet could possibly have any trouble reading it. It's a fact that there's no problem, according to the wording. But the fact is that at least some people do have a problem reading it.

I really would like to know how it was done, though. Were the words in sentences or just lists of words? If they were in sentences, it's very likely that at least part of being able to read them was by context. Once you figure out what they're saying, you're likely to be able to work out the rest of the words. Individual words in a list would be much harder.

I mentioned the would "culod." On its own, there's no way that anyone would know what it is. In context, though, you can probably figure it out.

"I akesd my mteohr if I culod go" vs. "A culod is a vslbiie aegrtgage of tniy weatr dproltes."

I'm being pedantic, I guess, and it's not the first time. I find myself even more pedantic than usual when I'm in the midst of programming. Everything has to be exactly perfect or it won't work, so I'm geared for looking for errors in logic. :)

Hmmmmm. It would be an interesting project to write a program set up to test this. And not terribly difficult, I don't think.

But it is also "could." It starts and ends with the same letters and has the same letters in the middle. That's the point. Without context, there's no way that you would know. You might assume that it's supposed to be "cloud," but you really have a 50/50 chance.
