I am trying to install Tinyportal on a SMF 1.1 RC2 forum - http://www.pvcblue.com/forum/index.php - after uploading and telling it to apply I get this warning message -
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.
the error refered to is shown below as -
8. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/index.template.php Test failed
are the MODS I installed what cause this??
these are the installed MODS -
1. Enchanced post template 1.0Ã,Â
2. Dilber MC 1.0Ã, Ã,Â
3. Custom Action Mod 2.0Ã, Ã, Ã,Â
4. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0Ã, Ã,Â
5. User Email System 1.0Ã, Ã,Â
6. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0Ã,Â
7. SMF Staff Page 1.2Ã,Â
8. Board Viewers 0.6Ã, Ã,Â
Thanks for any help !! :)
More than likely they are the cause of it yes. If this isn't a live site you can go ahead with the install and then just install a TP theme. But I would advise that you don't do this if you're using the site live. And of course, always makes backups before doing anything.
Ok - I was told over at the SMF Forum I could do a fresh re-install and then have the tinyportal, one person said to save my database and I could have all the posts and member info saved, but I do not know how to reupload the database - any suggestions?
Another person said to just re-upload all my files except the settings.php and settings_bak.php - I am not sure if this would work - what do you think?Ã, Thanks
Yes all you need to do is upload a fresh batch of files for SMF. Don't replace your Settings.php file as that holds all your database connection information.

Ok will doing this erase my members information? Also what about posts already made?
No it should not touch your database which is where all that is stored. Please make a backup before doing anything though. :)
ok just one more question - I do not mean to seem thick but - I am not sure about one thing - do I do the re-install then re-upload or just upload fresh files over the files I have and is is just the php files as I have special graphics? ???
If you upload the package with the SMF files it will replace the older files with new ones. That is what you should do for a "clean install" of SMF. Any graphics that are part of the default install will get replaced. If they're your own graphics and they weren't part of the SMF package then they will not get replaced.
As I said though, make a backuk before you do anthing. So if anything gets screwed up you can just restore the backup back to normal.
ok I am ftp downloading all my forum files, then Monday I am going to do a forum maintenance database back up - now is uploading the SMF package what you are calling a re-install? I was thinking a re-install was delete the forum, re-install the forum programs, then upload my saved files over them? I am so confused and hopeless! LOL!! :idiot2:
If you want, PM me your Ftp// login info, and I will install TP for you??

Try not to take things so literal. lol
If you replace all the old files with a new set of files I would call that a reinstall. Essentially what you are doing is the same as if you deleted all the SMF files and installed new ones. Same effect.

No I am not a alpha tester, just a guy with a forum who knows nothing about php and almost enough about html. The usual person who bugs the heck outta those who do know. :)

Ok well - my forum came with the webhosting service, version 1.0.7 I think, I then upgraded to SMF 1.1 RC2 so would this mean I would have to do a delete and then a total re-install again, and if not, do I download the "new install" files for SMF 1.1 RC2 instead if the upgrade files I used, and then upload over the current files?
If you have already successfully run the 1.0.7 to 1.1RC2 update then your database can stay as it is. A method that has worked well for me is as follows:
- Uninstalled all mods (ignoring fails) and if previously installed, delete the TP package.
- Delete all TP Source folder and theme template files, if you have previously installed TP.
- Overwrite all Sources, default theme (and Babylon or Classic if used) and [root] index.php, with SMF 1.1 RC2 upgrade files
- Install TP through the package manager
- Reinstall the other Mods
If you have other themes you will have to work out how update these.
Quoteone question tho - agter I delete all the mods, an dthen go to overwrite the files, do I also upload the settings.php and settings_bak.php files from the upgrade package? Someone previously said if I did they would erase my current members and posts.
You don't need to delete the mods, just uninstall them and delete any previously installed versions of TP.
I didn't upload any other files, what essentially you are doing by uninstalling all the mods is to return SMF to its basic condition. By overwriting the source and default template files is ensuring that you have removed any code that uninstalling the mods didn't remove.
All your member and post information is stored in the database, including any tables created by the mods. These will be found when you run the reinstalls and not overwritten.
OK YEA!!! This all worked now one last stupid question - how do you install a theme for TP? I want to install the Dilber theme.
Just download the theme you want (make sure it is correct for the version of SMF you are using, and TP compatible, Dilber is good for that :)
Upload the zip file from your admin/themes and layout, and click the install.
Just make sure you have set all the forum to the DEFAULT smf though, or els it will fail with some files and images.
All fixed up and works great!! Thank you to everyone for thier help!!!

I still see some errors with the linkbar, the logo you have push the whole linkbar to the right and leave a scroll bar at the bottom.
Perhaps Crip can help you sort that out?
What link bar?? Do you mean the menu bar across the top?
Also anyone know how to center the logo banner?
Yes, the meny bar, i think Crip can help you out with it :)
main menu needs fixing..it's way bad looking..
Banner messed up your nav bar........

It is theme related, the header code is
only OK in IE. It would be best to refer it back to the theme designer, if only because pvcblue cannot be the only one who wants to put their own banner into that theme.
In index.template.php of Dilber MC theme, try to find
<div class="maindiv" style="width: 95%;">
<div style="width: 100%; height: 120px;" class="topbar">
Removing height: 120px; there might cure the FF misalignment.
@ nokoi,
HarzeM (Dilber creator) visits here often, if I see he is on-line here I will direct his attention to this Thread.
Just thought may be at the end of the banner, try adding a br /> or a </tr></td> - ?
