Do most of, or any of your guys respect the Handicap parking signs at public, stores, restaurants, parks, et-cetera?
I am handicap and ride in a Van, and even with this sign on my unloading side window people still park so I can't get back in or out of my Van -- or just simply ignore that there taking up someone thats handicap parking Rights, and or disabled persons parking place..but Why?? ??? :tickedoff:
Heres my Vans window sign --

if no one replies then your all guilty of it.. :P
Having a side opening vehicle does raise some issues if it was used in the UK. This would mean you'd need 2 spaces in a store carpark. What if a 2nd disabled driver needs to park his/her vehicle there? Who takes priority?
As for the general public using them? There's no need for it. Tow the vehicle away to a pound, and charge them to get it back.
I absolutely hate and detest the selfish sods that insist on parking in disabled spaces - last week a load of lads pulled up in a car and parked straight in the disabled space - because 'they were only there for a minute'.
They disgust me.

Here we have parking places marked for Vans // -- // much wider, or cars/trucks have theirs.
I always make sure the other (disabled-person) has space enough, or I park elsewhere..I sometimes can't get back in my Van at many places and have to wait, or move my Van to an open area in the lot.
The people who break this (State Law) should be given a hefty fine if you ask me...
I don't and never have. The same when I lived in England and you have baby & toddler parking I didn't park in those either.
It's usually kids and selfish barstewards that park in such places.
In general, yes. I always have respected them and don't plan on doing otherwise.
Now, if I want to do something quick, as in go to the store and just be in there for say, 15 mins, I really don't care. Though, I will go and out and move it if I actually take longer than I originally planned.
But, this applies to a lot of things, I'll park next to a fire hydrant or on the wrong side of the road, etc. (which are all illegal) if I'm in a hurry.
I know most of the cops in this city, anyway, so I don't worry about it. :P 8)
I have a permit to park in a invalid space to, but i have never used it.
We got one automatically cause Dennis (my son) have a heart condition.
But i have noticed several times at the stores or the local town here that a lot of people really do show respect for the invalid parking spaces here.
I used it once when i took Dennis to the hospital, and as soon as i went out of the car to just walk around the car and take Dennis out, there were people asking if i knew i had parked in a invalid space. They didn't think i needed it just cause i walked around the car not limping like.
But after that, i gave it a thought, i really don't need to park there, I can walk, and there are always some one other that need the spot better than we do. Dennis can walk to, so he isn't that handicapped, except for the heart of his.
Some guys I know with the same dis. if they spot an (AB) (abled bodied) person park in a disabled spot, they pull there Van behind the other auto up to it's bumper and park.
When the person returns to their auto demanding the guys to pull out from behind them, the guys say they have called the store manager and the police is on the way, and BTW they have your Tag number -- manager, cops arrive and they issue them a parking vialation that comes automatic with a $100.00 fine plus court cost..
maybe, hopefully they will not do that again.. >:D
Hey Crip what I would do if you countinue to have a problem with non-disability people or (AB) as you put it, park to where you have them blocked in and go sit somewhere where you can watch them get up set. Then go over to them and ask them how it fills. Where I am from it is very disrepectful to take up handicap parking spots or to just plain parking in the handicap spots. Me personally I would be an ass to them for being so inconciderate.
Good idea Pork. >:D
Im not as disabled as you crip, I only use a can to get around, but long distances are impossible for me and like you I detest it when ppl use the handicap parking when they dont need too, I also refuse to shop at stores that done have electric carts with baskets, I just can't handle a regular basket let alone all the walking down Isles.
Where I live, (Old) South Wales ;) , the disabled provision looks good to me. All the Cwmbran town centre carparks have a good number of wide disabled bays, nearest to the lifts in the multi stories. All the core bus route corridors have had their bus stop kerbs raised and as part of the plan to redevelop the railway station they are buying extra land to put in a large disabled parking area.
I don't park in places I'm not meant to park, disabled bays included.
Thanks for the feedback, it's good to know I'm not the only one who has saw and dealt with this in someway or another. :)
Well I drive a black cab and you know that cabbies are the most respectful and law abiding people on the planet. >:D
Thanks,
thats a good thing. :coolsmiley:
Well, IMHO, ya gotta be pretty low to use a handicapped parking spot when yer not handicapped. It's there for a reason and everyone knows what it's used for. Some folks just can't take rules and regulations and have to do their own thing. Sad, but true....
I better stop there 'cause if I'm not careful, I'll morph this thread into a rant....lol.
;)

I can't bring myself to do it although I have thought if it on occassion! ;) But I do know people who do it.
Doctors are the one's responsible for this. I do know this from personal experience. I know people who tell their doc they need it and they get it easily. Must be some sort of payment to the doc's...
Aye, that's one thing I've noticed, as well.
People who want to have access to these areas can get a tag from their doctors, even if they don't deserve it. I know some who do.
So, they are still doing the same thing, even though they have a tag. Legally, they can park there because they have a tag, but they don't deserve the tag, in the first place.
if i was the leader of the world id have the persons car smashed and put a ban on them from taking public transport for fraud (for having fake tags) or parking in handicap parking if they are not
but then again if i was leader of the world things would be a lot different around here :coolsmiley:
thanks for the feedback guys, I just wanted to know what ya'll thought of this..Thanks. :)
NP Crip, always fun to have a 'rant' or two when you want to have a healthy debate!

I will actually admit to being guilty of parking in the handicap space. ::)
I only do it at Blockbuster Video and I jump out, throw the DVD in the drop box, and get back in and go. 18 seconds tops. All the parking spots are usually taken up except the handicap spot and it's located right in front of the drop box.
Other than that, never. It's just not right. I get mad when I see a perfectly able bodied kid getting out of his grandpa's Lincoln Continental with handicap tags on it. Here in Colorado, they have the ones that go around your rear view mirror. I see tons of people parking in the spots that really don't need to be. Just borrowing somebodies tag and using it. Now that is lame IMHO.
