Title: Am in need of help
Post by: oneway on May 03, 2006, 05:21:16 PM
Is is okay for me to ask for help about installing SMF here? Not a good start surely, cos when I finally get this done, I then have to try and install TP...

If it is okay, here's my problem. Hosted on GoDaddy. I've uploaded all the SMF files via FTP in correct directories. When I try to run install.php the message is Page not found. However, the page where install.php resides IS there: I can see it in CuteFTP, including install.php and the Themes folder, etc.

What's more, by temporarily removing index.php and install.php then putting in an index.html file, "miraculously" the page is found.

What I can't figure is whether the problem lies when install.php tries to access SMF, or there's some problem on GoDaddy somewhere (or is that part of the SMF site offline or something?)

Sometimes I really don't like computers very much... :-X

Second query. I've looked and looked till I'm fair worn out: if there really is such a thing as Package Manage in SMF *grin*, could some kind soul please tell me the exact URL where it resides. *hopeful*

I'd suggest contacting GoDaddy about this problem, sounds like it may be server related.

As to the package manager, it's in the SMF admin control panel under packages. lol

Thanks Wolfenrook. I'm not getting anywhere with this problem so far - still getting the Page not found message.

GoDaddy say: "Unfortunately we cannot provide support for the setup of Third party applications." I've emailed back to them and will post more information about this as we go along.

And at this early point I really don't know what "SMF admin control panel" is, or where it is. Is there a URL I can go to please?

PLEASE NOTE: SUCCESS!!

I'm not exactly sure what happened as I tried so many different things to solve this problem, but suddenly I found myself connected to SMF, filled in the fields - and have now successfully installed SMF to my website. *excitement!*

As my success came via IE6, I do have some concerns that Firefox (latest) that I normally use may have had something to do with my problems, but probably not. I'm just glad it's all happened... at last!

A big thankyou to all who helped!
