I am manually editing the tinyportal to work with Helios and cannot find the above string to replace?
Why not just download the Helios Theme for Tinyportal that's already done?

Which is where, Ichbin? I've redownloaded helios_multi11 and I had earlier downloaded the tp_helios file, but neither are TinyPortal or SMF ready yet. I don't mind modding them no worries, but some of the code seems to be missing or wrong betweent the *.mod file and the actual
index_template.php file.
index.php and
load.php modded fine.
Having said that, the
tinyportal065.mod tells me to search
index_template.php for:
<span style="font-family: Georgia, sans-serif; font-size: xx-large;">', $context['forum_name'], '</span>';. However, there is no such code in either helios download that I can find. I've searched using the Find function in Zend Studio and by physically parsing the code by-eye and some of these lines are just wrong between the *.mod file and the file I'm supposed to mod.
Also, the line that says search for
<body>'; is misleading as there is no such line in either helios_multi11.zip (or the tar.gz--I've checked both). I had to add the apostrophe and semi-colen ( '; ) at the end of the tag, like so:
<body>';, then add an
echo ' before the
<div> tag that started the next line. I had to stop there to run some errands, but now I'm back to trying to mod the code as
tinyportal065.mod tells me to. But as I stated above, the
index_template.php files just don't match up with the *.mod files--from either version of the helios downloads I've been able to find on the site here... /shrugs
So what is the link for the TinyPortal ready smf_1.1b3 file, please?
Cheers!
Ci
Some times you have to change your search parameters. For instance, when searching for <body>'; you might want to try just <body> as bloc probably wrote the code slightly different. I have cerberus working on my TinyPortal site with 1.1 beta 3. I'll attach my index.template.php file to this post. All you need to do is replace it with yours and it should work.

Thanks for sending along your file, although it didn't work in this case either. Thanks also for the response and trying to help.
I tried all kinds of search parameters, chopping this or that off, using the second statement in whatever I was searching for instead of the one indicated in the *.mod file, cutting the parameters down to one tag or word, searching for the end of a given statement versus the beginning, etc. No joy on any of it--the passages of code we were being told to search for simply did not exist in the file(s) that were indicated as the ones we should search. Finally, after formatting the code so Zend Studio could see it without running off the right side of the editor, I decided to do what I should have done from the beginning: I applied some good, old-fashioned deductive reasoning--and many Zend debugging runs... :P.
Once I had done a little 'creative' modding above and beyond what is described in the tinyportal065.mod file, things began to go my way. I made the changes suggested in the *.mod file (adding here when necessary, deleting there as applicable) and got TinyPortal to at least install and limp along. But I kept getting ./Sorces/load.php and ./template/index_template.php errors (the red Test Failed ones that sometimes crop up after the 'Apply Mod' step). Oh well, back to the drawing board, so to speak.
I looked over every line of code, one line at a time, thinking there might be something glariingly out of place. No such luck... lol. The one thing that had become apparent, however, is that some of the code we were replacing in load.php was simply breaking the code. It turns out that it was a combination of little niggling things, such as the <body>'; conundrum in my last post. As another example, the following code wasn't even in load.php and the forums came up fine under helios_tp. I started going over the files, line by line again to see what had happened that finally made them run and did some pretty extensive testing, I found that if I then insterted this passage of code from tinyportal065.mod:
// Build up the linktree (adding TPortal forum index)
$context['linktree'] = array_merge(
$context['linktree'], array(array(
'url' => $scripturl . '?action=forum#' . $board_info['cat']['id'],
''name' => $board_info['cat']['name']
)),
The forum breaks with these errors:Parse error: parse error, unexpected ')' in D:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\smf\Sources\Load.php on line 532
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: loadsession() in D:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\smf\index.php on line 120
By simply removing the comma " , " (quotes added here for emphasis, not in the file), the forum works again.
And there are a couple other examples like this, but this is already long enough. I'm not dissing Bloc, or yourself, by any means--Bloc has done a fine job with TinyPortal and you in trying to help others past problems you've already solved or heard/read about. I am simply saying that it's a beta product and issues such as these are the norm, not the exception, in most cases. Telling someone to download this or that file, and then not giving the url of said file, or telling someone to search the forum on this or that without being specific on WHAT they should search for is not going to help in such cases. And telling them to RTFM (God, how I hate that when I hear it) isn't either since there IS no manual for them to read... lol. The point is, what it's going to take to get these issues cleared up is all of us working together and remembering that not everyone is as advanced in coding as we might be and not everyone understands certain concepts that we, ourselves, grasp instinctively... /me grins
Beta testing is a whole different animal than just plugging in some modules and patting oneself on the back that it worked. One has to be able to document what they did that caused it to work so readily for them when others have such a hard time getting their installation(s) up and running. What's different in your machines, settings, web server, software versions, so on and so forth. By the same token, if there are issues or errors, one has to give very exacting and specific details on what they were doing at the time, what they had just done, and note the error codes/messages returned verbatim for their questions/issues to be resolved in any meaningful fashion.
Don't mean to preach to the choir here, and I don't know how long you've been coding, Ich. You may have been at it years longer than me. However, my youngest son is 23, has been through the Marine Corps, and now works in IT himself. Some of his earliest memories are of me bumbling along at first on an Altair, and then hacking away at Commodore Basic code (Vic-24 variety) with him on my knee... lol. Granted, I've been retired and away from coding for some years now so a lot of this newer technology like php, XML, RSS, et cetera, is beyond my ken for the moment. Be that as it may, I am getting back up to speed slowly; it just takes time and patience to learn the new ideas and paradigms.
And for any continuation of this thread, I think we really should move this discussion to the Beta Forum as these are really beta testing issues... ;)
Thanks again for the help and support...
Cheers!

There is going to be problems with applying TinyPortal to custom themes, not matter how I make it search..simply because the themes can be so different. So I decided to go the safe route, making sure a fresh default theme works, and rather updating my own themes for those who wants them. They also tend to be exactly what the problem is - non-standard. ::) :)
I have looked at different ways of applying it to other themes, using layes for example, but thats a branch I will not release yet. it may never be in fact, but the current direction I will support and enhance.
As for Load.php and index.php that depends on SMF version, and thats one of the things I am working on to get proper working, because the package manager should be able to install TP correctly on all versions - just by reading the version of the forum and applying the right search strings. Its up to me to get them right of course.
No, its not easy for others that just want to search for a phrase and replace/add to it, when in fact you have to assume and maybe understand things to put it in successfully. Thats a real challenge, but it helps somewhat that people most often just modifies default theme instead of re-writing the whole theme. I can then lean on that common portions will exist, if they are not EXACTLY the same.
So when you search the Helios theme and don't find matches, its because the search is really designed for the SMF default theme. This is a thing all mods (that modify theme files) have to face in the SMF system currently.
I have the test site up and running now, regardless of this or that, so it's all good. I guess my main thought for the entire thread was: if you're gonna help, supply information that is specific to the issue and not simply a generic, knee-jerk response. If you're just gonna say search for it, or RTFM, or something similar, why even post?
I'll be good from now on, Daddy... NOT! :coolsmiley:
Cheers!

This is the very reason I asked you months ago if there was some way for you to make TP "call" the theme through SMF Bloc. Like the way Nesianstyles portal/mod does.... Oh well, I'm still here aren't I? :D
yeah..glad you are! :)
I might have missed that though ::) ...does SimplePortal search for specific themes?
thanks ichbin -- I upgraded to beta3 and my forums was messed up - I just put your file back in and all seems to be working ok now--just getting errors but will deal with that later--
Tanks for having that file ready

No problem mate. I'm willing to deal with errors until Bloc is all up to date on all his stuff. I just wish I could fix them myself so I could help Bloc out....
Do have a small problem now -- I can not use the packag manager saids that the packages dirr is not writable -- using IIS on 2003 server and i know it is??keep wanting me to go do the ftp thing and i dont use that?
trying to install simpledownload. Before that I installed online users today and googlebot $ spiders mod ok-- dont figure ???
get this error also
An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory is not writable!ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,Â
update: fixed with http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=40867.15
open PackageGet.php
please try replacing this:
$rf = @fopen($url . $_REQUEST['package'], 'rb');
if (!$rf)
{
fwrite($fp, fetch_web_data($url . $_REQUEST['package']));
}
else
{
while (!feof($rf))
fwrite($fp, fread($rf, 1024));
fclose($rf);
}
fclose($fp);(original - same code I posted above.)
With:
fwrite($fp, fetch_web_data($url . $_REQUEST['package']));
fclose($fp);
That's probably better anyway.
