What does the "Minimum number of messages to read" parameter set in the Recent topics block?
It is a setting that controls the query. Standard SMF reads the last 350 posts to select the recent posts. This is for performance reasons.
If you create a recent topics block that only selects one board, that board may not be included in the latest 350 posts. This will result in the block being empty. By increasing this value for the block you can work around this and make sure the block will still produce results...
Thanks, it's clear now! :)
Not sure it's right to reopen this thread, but this other question is also about the Recent topics block, and I thought I'd save you one thread ID. ;)
We have our Recent topics on the right panel and it renders perfectly on desktop. We love that. However, when I browse the site on mobile, despite I'd be curious about the recent topics first of all, I need to scroll way down below the shoutbox, articles and user panel where I finally find the list of recent topics. It looks like if only one narrow column is available, the middle panel is being rendered on top, then the left panel, and only then the right panel which contains my precious Recent block. Is it possible to get the right panel, or specifically the Recent block rendered above the middle panel in mobile view, without changing anything about how the page is rendered on desktop? The right panel is only to be rendered on the main page, it isn't rendered anywhere else.
I've digged through the TinyPortal panel and block settings, but I couldn't find an option to set the render order for panels, or to set an order for blocks regardless of their panel (which could make sense in mobile view, because there you have only one "panel" really).
You can do that using the block behavior setting.
Create an extra recent post block in the top panel that only shows on narrow screens...
Thanks, it works like a charm! :)
One more question that I don't want to open a new thread for: I increased the width of the left panel, but then the main reading space decreased (which is expected). However, the site has some extra space on the sides that the contents could use – how can I make the contents wider? I highly suspect it's the theme's setting though, not TinyPortal.
Correct, TinyPortal does not set forum width
