Title: Theme application...
Post by: sturmkatze on July 07, 2018, 10:36:58 PM
Did something change? Where do you apply the themes at? I thought on the page edit, but now i only see "none" in the "use only this theme" box. Yes, it has been awhile. I have been working on other things. and now I see stuff is all wonky. I changed the category to check something and it went to main theme. Then, when I went back, it was still there?? I cannot get the theme to change back to what it is supposed to be (there are multiple different areas all with their own themes).

Before I go posting links to themes that won't make sense, I thought I'd ask if something changed. I AM on TP version 1.107 if that's a problem. I didn't update because every time I do, everything explodes, but something sure has. UGH.

If you've not upgraded TinyPortal then I'm guessing something has changed with SMF what version of that are you running?

2.0.15

Something sure changed because I also had CK editor in there, working and BAM, all gone (files there, but not working). So, I am backing up the TP and SMF files now.  hope this doesn't all just explode. So kludgy. I had talked to Bloc back in 15 about all this. Wonder why I didn't go further. Bet it was my job exploding. Ugh. Life.

IT looks like you deleted the package before uninstalling it.

Upload the package again?
( if you still have the original version file)

do you have TP on the first tab under browse packages? if so then it is possible to set it as installed and you can uninstall from there.

No a copy of the files, so the contents of your SMF directory.

I'm confused, please bear with me. BY SMF directory, do you mean the whole site? It's not in its own folder, per-se. Is there a smf folder I am not seeing? There is a LOT there.

My bad. I uploaded the TP package back. I did NOT install it because there were a bunch of errors and it's already messed up. It's there.

I noticed a lot of the problems as I am trying to make the pages go https: and when I did the repair settings to change all that, it messed things up, like not allowing viewing of stuff in the tp images folder, SO, I undid that. But then, looking at things, I realized a lot of stuff wasn't working. Who knows for how long  :o. I've been concentrating on the Roman site making it mobile (and now stressing about it not being secure -- I hate google). Anyway, I digress.

The thing is, this site has different sections, by time period, and those each have a different theme. Now, it seems not to allow me to change the theme and, if i mess with the category, it changes the theme to the main one. It has been a kludge over the years to trying to make it work. Now it's all come to roost, I guess.

I think this is most likely the cause of all your issues, you need to update all url's to be https when you switch to a secure site. I'm guessing some of your css and image url's were not updated so that is why some stopped working.

This would also be why the CKEditor stopped working.

You said you had a backup of the SMF and TP files in an earlier post, this is what I was asking for.

I thought I had put them back. What happened when I DID do the secure stuff, is a lot of it just stoped working. Then, when I went back, it wouldn't work anymore.

QuoteThis would also be why the CKEditor stopped working.
Could be, but I didn't monkey with that coding. Hell, I wouldn't know how. A friend of mine, a guru did that for me.

QuoteYou said you had a backup of the SMF and TP files in an earlier post, this is what I was asking for.
I do. My question is, what exactly do you need? The whole folders or just the smf files in the main folder? I am not trying to be obtuse. I can zip whatever you need into a file, if you need that. Or, not to annoy people, you could pm me??  ;) Would that be better.

I think it'll be easier to say everything for now other than attachments and any uploaded images.

Although as you mentioned the https change I'm almost entirely sure it's all down to that messing everything up and not everything being modified correctly with repair settings.

I'd bet. It worked changing another site to https: and I could show you, except our club president didn't pay the domain  :tickedoff: Still, I just don't know what I did wrong. reenactor.Net is complicated. I have spent today un-screwing the front page, removing tables and making them div float boxes. Other stuff. Anyway... if that's what you want, all the folders and files other than images and attachments... I can do that.

Also, for S&G, I reran repair-settings and made it all https: and so now the /tp-images folder is forbidden. AND, i can't figure out why.

For example:

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

if TP is not set as installed. follow https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Manually_setting_a_package_installed_or_uninstalled to set it as installed and then you can uninstall it to upgrade.

you would need to modify the permissions on that file or folder in your hosts control panel.

Actually I can only not access it on the first attempt, the second attempt is fine.

I think you themes are ok after it's loaded once as well? Well I get different themes for different sections not sure if they are correct though.

I don't think seeing the zip will help much as I'm pretty confident its the http/https switch. Although how to uninstall TinyPortal might be a issue.

Originally, sure. In about 2007-08. I forget. When upgraded to 2, it was a nightmare. 2 weeks of dull headaches. Ugh. IchBin helped me rebuild it and I will be forever grateful. It was uninstalled, then the upgrade installed. Dull headaches.

I am just trying to see if there is a relatively easy way forward.  :o

No you misunderstood, once I load it for the second time then all your pages have a different theme, without knowing what it looked like before I can't tell if they are what you had before, but they are all different.

Ugh. So, each area has a theme plus the main theme. I DO know that if I edit a page in any way, it changes the theme to the main one I have for the site. If you're telling me that it's rotating themes, that's even worse. Ugh! What I really need is a way forward in fixing this mess.

Current thought is something w/ server wrong as it is not showing stuff (mostly images) certain folders. I CERTAINLY didn't do it and it seems to have all went bad with the try to change to secure. However comma, I don't know when the theme problem started... maybe w/ upgrade to latest SMF?!?

Anyway, I do have a friend who is really good at this and he's going to look at the cpanel and some other stuff to see what he can see.

Any thoughts as to why it's not in the install, so that I may then uninstall TP and install the latest??

Ok so Apache, I really don't know why it doesnt work on first load of https until you've accessed http first. There is something wrong with your configuration. Has your host helped you at all?

With regards to TP being installed I don't know what was and what wasn't in that version of TinyPortal and what IchBin did. Hopefully he will read this and offer some guidance.

opera tells me a lot of images are from an unsecure source. you need to make sure all the images are from https URLs.

all of those need to be found where they link from and fix to be https links.

that is just on your index page.

Most are in the tp-images folder ??? I will pester him some more because I ran the setting-repair and changed all those folders to https: I did this on another site and it worked. :idiot2:

but did you check the source of the links to those images? they may need to be manually changed depending on how they are used. also it looked to me that some were not in the tp-images folder. use your browsers inspect tool to look over your page and get things fixed up.

It looks like the images are linked directly from blocks and articles. If you used the full path in these links they will NOT be updated when you switch to https . You will have to do that MANUALLY .

Since you are still using an outdated version of TP that does not support the image proxy...

While you do that, consider making them relative links. Instead of using the full path htttp://www... try using syntax ./directory/file.jpg

In blocks, I have ALWAYS had problems. In the first use, it works witha relative link, but AFTER that, I always had to do the full path or it never worked. I mean this is going back years. I thought it was a TP bug.

Here is the code for one of them that doesn't work:
<a href="index.php?action=forum" target="_blank" title="Visit reenactor.Net's online living history forums, where all of history comes together!"><img alt="banner for reenactor.Net's online living history forums" border="0" height="60" src="tp-images/Image/rnet_forums.jpg" width="468" /></a><br />

That relative link should work (they do for me) and as it seems the problem is indeed something outside TP

I tried the http link and the https link and only the http link works: https gives the error:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /tp-images/Image/rnet_forums.jpg on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This will then also be presented when using the relative links...
I can't help with this...

SO, basically, it sounds like most of this is server issues? Okay, I can get with him.

I still can't uninstall my current TP to install latest TP... I might try it on one of my less complicated sites.
