You have these options in TP > Settings:
Tag topics with Global tags?
Tag boards with Global tags?

If those options are on, you will see the option above the "related" section to add or remove the tags.

Hi IchBin,

I'm not seeing the options you describe, yet I am seeing the image in the previously include attachment Related field.jpg.

What I see is (see tagimage.JPG attachment).

I'm using the Core Theme.

Kerry,

Look in this area ▬▬►http://www.YourSite.com/index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=settings

See the image below.  That is what you are looking for.  Turn those two options off.  If you don't see those options, you may not have the latest version of TinyPortal.  In that case, please give us the info requested from our Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=581), specifically ...

You're right. I have those two buttons selected to "No" so I must not have the latest version of TP. According to my Modifications Packages—

4.    TinyPortal    1.104    [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
5.    TinyPortal    1.107    [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

—I have TP 1.1.07 installed.

I downloaded 1_0 but its unzipped folder contains, Common, SMF1, SMF2, and "package info" but no upgrade instructions or a folder for SMF3.x.

Thanks, Kerry

TP Admin > Settings and Frontpage > Settings

Please take a screenshot of that page.

If the options are set to no, you need to turn them on to remove the tags.

I had both set to No. Per your instructions I changed them to Yes. Now the tag is still there and a new field is there "Tag this Topic."  (see attachments)

IchBin,  I downloaded 1_0 but its unzipped folder contains, Common, SMF1, SMF2, and "package info."  I don't see any install or upgrade instructions or a folder for SMF3.x. Which of these do I upload via Package Manager?

As far I know, it's impossible to remove Related Topics once you assigned it. You can delete the tag yes but the related topics will stay it.

I searched how to delete but didn't find the option.

No it's not impossible. The link you are seeing, is the other topic that has the same tag. All links that are in the related section are items that are tagged with the same tag. You need to remove the tags from all items.

There is no such thing as SMF3.x so I'm not sure what you are talking about. SMF2.x is in there. Not sure why you are asking about install/upgrade instructions?

My bad. I do have SMF 2.07.

What happened was I tried to upgrade my TP 1.107 to  TP 1.0 using Package Manager but I got error messages, so I uploaded TP 1.0 manually and made the code changes. I'm not seeing where to validate that I have TP 1.0.

Re: "You need to remove the tags from all items." I've tried but obviously I'm doing something wrong.

This is what my Package Manager looks like. When I try to uninstall either version I got error messages. (see attachment).

Thanks, Kerry

I deleted the 2 tags I created. Nowdays there are no tags configured:

However, there are topics that still have them:

I dont know how to delete them.

Guys,

We are talking about this on the Team Board here now.  I am not entirely sure that the code is not working the way it was intended to work.  For instance, who is to say that just because an Admin has turned off the option to add new global tags, and even deleted the old tags, that 2 topics that were originally related through the tag system when the tags option was turned on should not remain related after that option is turned off?  In a way, that makes sense.

Please give us time to talk about this and make some decisions about it.

Thanks ZarPrime,

If you wish I can email you my log on info for you to test with my board. It's that important to me.

I believe I only have one topic  (ftp://www.bigislandforum.org/forums/index.php/topic,2309.0.html)that has the "Related" window above the "Poll" window and I don't know how it got there.

Let me see if I can explain this so that you guys will understand. When you create a tag, and entry is made in the tp_variables to save your tag.

Now when you tag a topic, a separate entry in the tp_variables table is made. This entry points to the first entry you made where you created the tag.

So now let's say you remove the tag from tags in the TP admin center. Once you remove the tag, it only deletes the entry in the tp_variables table that you created. It does not delete any topics that you have tagged, because they have separate entries in the database.

When you go to the topics that have related tags associated with them, they still display.

So in order to remove them you have to do the following:
1. Turn on both tagging options in the TP Admin > Settings and Frontpage > Settings.
2. Now go to a topic that shows you that it has related items.
3. Uncheck the tag at the top of the topic page to remove the tag, and click send.

You must do this for every single topic that has been tagged. Removing the tag in TPadmin will not remove related items from any topics.

Hi IchBin,

I did Steps 1 & 2 but when I got to Step 3,
"3. Uncheck the tag at the top of the topic page to remove the tag, and click send." I couldn't see where to ". . . uncheck the tag at the top of the topic page, . . ."  (see unchecktag.JPG attachment).

After trying your suggestion I turned both tagging options in  TinyPortal  > Settings > Settings to OFF.

You need to unshrink the block area so it will show you which tags are there. Click the (https://www.tinyportal.net/Themes/Proteus_smf202/images/tinyportal/TPupshrink2.gif) icon.

I have no idea what's happening. That option is not there now when viewed with IE, FF, or Chrome. I've refreshed the cache. What it looks like now is in the (see noseeblockareatoshrink attachment).

Let's take a rest.

After trying your suggestion I turned both tagging options in  TinyPortal  > Settings > Settings to OFF.

You need to turn those settings back ON, then go back to the topic.  That "tag this topic" block with the upshrink will have magically reappeared.  Click the plus sign now and the tags for that topic will appear in the block.  After that, do number 3 as Ichbin mentioned above (3. Uncheck the tag at the top of the topic page to remove the tag, and click send.)

On the off chance that you don't see any tags to remove in the topic because you might have removed them earlier in TPAdmin, just click the send button and the topic will no longer be related to anything else.  Remember that besides topics --> boards, articles, and downloads can also be related.

We can all rest now. It's gone. Thanks everyone for your excellent support.

BTW: How can I tell that my upgrade to TP 1.0 worked? I don't see the version number anywhere.

Nowhere in any of the four blocks, Credits, The Team, Special Thanks, or Copyrights  is TinyPortal mentioned.

To clarify. I upgraded to TP 1.0 and I don't see it mentioned anywhere in Admin or the TinyPortal tab so I have no proof, when viewing with a browser, that my manual upgrade took effect.

By clicking the link for the year in the copyright to see the credits page, one of the boxes on that page should show the version number.

Fixed here too!!.

In my case, the tags no longer existed. Once I click on upshrink button I couldn't erase them (obvious). The way to erase them is, without writing anything Write new tag text, clic on Send and...magic!! ;D

Thanks guys

Kerry,

Assuming that your site is located at http://www.bigislandforum.org/forums and I think it is, it doesn't look like the TinyPortal copyright is at the bottom of your site.  Since you are using the Core theme rather than the SMF default Curve theme, and you say that you installed TinyPortal manually, it's not too difficult to understand why this is the case.  When you install TinyPortal manually rather than using the Package Manager, and you aren't using the default theme (Curve), certain edits to other themes would be required in order to make sure that the Mod is working correctly with the custom theme.  If you had the TP copyright down there, you could just click the year in the copyright to be redirected to the TP credits page, as Ichbin suggested.  That page would be at this link --> http://www.bigislandforum.org/forums/index.php?action=tpmod;sa=credits

If you look at that page, it indicates that TinyPortal 1.0 is indeed installed.  In addition, a link to the TP help page is also missing from your top menu.  That page is here --> http://www.bigislandforum.org/forums/index.php?action=tpmod;sa=help

I could probably verify this more easily if I could look at your site with the Curve theme rather than the Core theme but you have disallowed guests from changing themes.  In any case, the bottom line is that, if you install TP manually, you have to also install it manually for the particular custom theme that you are using, if you aren't going to use the SMF default Curve theme.

Out of curiosity, does TinyPortal show up in your Package Manager?

Correcto mondo. That's reassuring. I now understand about the Curve theme. Thank you.

Quote. . . does TinyPortal show up in your Package Manager?
(see attachment)
It's obviously not correct but as long as everything appears to be working I'm not concerned. I tried to "Uninstall" both old TP packages before upgrading to 1.0 but it messed it up so badly that I had to upload the backup, after which I manually installed 1.0.

Much appreciation,

Kerry
