Ok, I feel like a complete newbie asking this. But how do I actually install Tiny Portal with SMF 1.0.6.
We are all nubies from the start :)
Start by erasing all the other themes you have installed before you download Tinyportal from the download section.
When you have cleaned out the themes, upload the tinyportal to ypur package manager and shoose to install the mod from there.
In there you will see if anything isent right, and if so, come back and show the error but abort the install before.
If you dont get any error, go ahead with the install, follow the easy instructions, and you are done :)
Right. I uploaded it to /public_html/SMF/Packages
I have a folder there called Tinyportal0_86, but TP isnt showing up in the Package manager. Did I do it wrong?
By the way, thanks for the fast reply :)
Ignore that. Succesfully uploaded the package, got this error when I try to install it:
2: unlink(/home/forumss/public_html/Packages/temp/package-info.xml): Permission denied
File: /home/forumss/public_html/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 910
Go through your FTP account and change mod to 755 or 777 to that file and see if it help get rid of the error.
Seems like the file is not readable
Ok I did that... No I have a new error. Oh the joy :P
2: copy(/home/forumss/public_html/Themes/default/languages/TPortalAdmin.english.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied
File: /home/forumss/public_html/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 961
I checked for that file, but it does not exist...
You can manually ul that file into your source folder in the forum. Extract the zipfile to your local computer, and ul the soursfile :)
Hope this will sort it for you :)
Yea.. I was just doing that then xD
Hope it works...
Is there anyway I can CHMOD a whole bunch of these files... It wants to to do them all -.-
Select all, right click chmod`m all as many as you want, if need be; you can go back and changes
Yay! It works! Thanks guys for helping out, your great :P
TP Rocks!

Argh!!! This is driving me nuts!!! Where/what is the "package manager"? I'm sure SMF and TinyPortal are great, but it looks kinda like a maze when you're used to work with phpBB for years.
How come there aren't any installation instructions with the TinyPortal distribution? Do I need to upload the TinyPortal zipfile anywhere? Where? Of do I need to unzip it first?
Please, I'm not new to forums, php, installations or anything, but I'm totally new to SMF and this portal thing and it doesn't look like anything I'm used to.
I've already replied to your post Tinysucker. And FYI the package manager link is in your admin panel.
Take a round first on SMF' s Online Manual (http://docs.simplemachines.org/).

Hi, I'm new on here. A little help would be highly appreciated. I get the same error message when installing tinyportal:
"2: copy(/home/getfitr/public_html/forum/Themes/default/languages/TPortalAdmin.english.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied
File: /home/getfitr/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs-Package.php

I have tried changing the mod to 755 with ftp but still doesn't work. I unzipped it on my local computer but the "subs-package.php" file is not there. I am very confused.
I read in an earlier post that the themes dir had to be erased. Could this be the problem? Do you want me to delete everything (files and subdirectories) in the themes dir?
Hope someone can help me fix this.
Phil
QuoteI read in an earlier post that the themes dir had to be erased.
DON' T ERASE THE THEMES DIR. Make it and it's directories 777 or 755 if your server doesn' t accept 777.
The following is for installing SMF applies also to upgrading and installing mods.
QuoteThe following files need to be CHMOD'ed to 777.
