Hello. It's been a while, but now I think I have no choice but to upgrade and wanted to get the proper procedure for doing so.
My forum is SMF 1.1.14 and my TP is 0.983 (updated from 0.971).
The upgrade for SMF 2.0 says I must uninstall add-ons, namely TP. My concern is that my TP is so old that I may lose all my static pages and block settings.
So what would be the proper process to uninstall, upgrade SMF, and then install/upgrade TP so that I will not lose all the TP customization I've done over the years to my site?
Thanks in advance.
You won't lose settings and articles (I assume by 'static pages' you mean articles) as those are stored in the database. However, due to changes in SMF and TP, some thing might not work correctly, such as block codes and mods. I would strongly urge you to set up a test site and run through the procedure on a non-live site first. Then we can help you sort through any issues you might have without the urgency of a live site being down. Document any changes you will need to make on your live site as you go, and you will be able to upgrade your live site in minutes, instead of potentially having it down for days.
I am on my second test site for my own site, and will make a third to insure when I do upgrade, it will go a smoothly as possible.
You wont lose nothing of tp from a upgrade on your forum. When I started out with tp I thought I would lose anything. If I remember tp correcting. But do a back up in case if does something go wrong on you. Always remember do a back up before upgrading anything ok?
EDITED POST - And do what willyp say about setting up a test site too. Its will be great for you have a test site to do all the upgrades ect? So you dont lost nothing on your main forum too
