You are at least 2 versions behind on TP from my guess. I don't keep track of the internal version numbers that are in the mod, but I'm guessing you are on beta 3 or beta 4. TP is currently at TP 1 RC1. I'm betting your error is probably fixed since then.

Usually a server permission error. If you can't get it to work, you may have to do a manual install.

Well, it should be writable by the webserver user. You'll have to consult with your host on how to make sure what that is. But permission error doesn't always mean file permissions, it can be things set within the PHP/Apache configuration. Which we can not possibly cover here since we're not a web server support board. :)

If you could tell what needs to be writeable I can get it changed, without that info its a bit vague.
How do i install manually?

I don't know what needs to be changed. That's just it, it impossible to know without looking at the server. To do a manual install you can go to the SMF mod page for TinyPortal and click the parse button for your version of SMF. It will then show you the install instructions for install TP manually.

Mm, I would have thought a site offering support for a script would know what was called from where, maybe time to look for something else instead of TP.

If you ask me anything about TP I can tell you where it's called. But what you're asking is all to do with your server. Your install of TP failed because your server doesn't think it has permission to do something. The only way I can figure that out for you is if you give me access to the backend of your server. Which most hosts don't allow unless you're on a VPS or dedicated server. That's why I said you should ask the host. If you want just chmod everything to 777 and see if it installs. If not, then you are back to asking your host because we don't have access to your server to determine the cause.

I am trying to uninstall TP so I can sort out another problem but getting this error, is it safe to proceed?

3.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/index.template.php    Test failed

You should be able to. You'll just have to remove the code that TP added to the index.template.php file manually.

Thanks, looks like just a couple of lines of script to remove.
