I think the test on v0.9 will be a long time :)

If you see in the Roadmap on what Bloc have as goal for v0.9 and we all know he doesent want the bloczone flooded with error reports from us... So my guess is that it wil take a whole lot of more time before release :), Perhaps even to the 1.0 release :D

What a lovely surprise to drop by this afternoon and find TP 0.9 and a brand new default theme  :)

The only problem is ... once logged in with the BZ8 theme my whole left block area is blank, and there are no collapse/expand icons (unless I'm blind and can't see them :o ) so I can't expand the Forum to fill the page.  Even worse, I can't access the "View Unread Posts" and similar links at all so it's a bit hard to read new posts.

Is it just me?  (It happens in both Firefox and IE).

Cheers

I was able to view the left column of blocks, but left the theme because of the lack of new post links.

I personally prefer the themes with those links on top.

hm, the theme should show up with leftblocks fine..but I have been correcting things along the way so it could be that. Have you tried a proper refresh?
Title: Re: v0.9 :)

Left side blocks looks like it always has to me, just prettier.. :)

Leftside have showed up as before so no errors here eather.

But i have to agree with the links in the top with last post sense last visit, that link is used by me a lot :)

Another thing i noticed are the "missing" separators in the users panel in the left blocks. ?

Other than that i kind of looks like Epsilon in the forum and other parts  :)

Hi Bloc

Before I log in with the BZ8 theme selected, the left blocks show up fine.  As soon as I log in though, the left block area just goes white - the space is there with no blocks on view at all (including my User Block etc).  I've had to switch back to the SMF default theme - which works as usual - otherwise I can't view or browse the Forum properly (amongst other things).

I've done a hard refresh in both Firefox and IE, and deleted the Tiny Portal cookie but it hasn't made any difference.

Cheers

Looks very nice Bloc, Love the BZ8 Theme, how long before we can get our grubby little hands on it  ;)

Can you tell us a little more about what we can expect in v.09, the roadmap doesn't say that much, just arcade, Gallery(which is undecided) and etc.

If you read back in the code and error boards, i guess you can get some good information of the goodies he is working on :)

I don't think Bloc is adding any modules as of yet. The primary goal this go-round was bug squashing, making sure features are working as intended, language feature, and an article overhual.

No mod's, although that may change.

I've done that in both Firefox and IE on three different computers but as soon as I log-in with the BZ8 theme selected the left blocks never show up. Apart from the picture of the coloured blocks at the top on the left, the entire left third of the screen is blank (just has a white background).

As I can't do anything useful without access to my user block etc, I've changed back to the SMF Default theme but I would really like to get the BZ8 theme working.  Any ideas?

I try to get out to the woodlands as often as I can... I feel so locked here, surrounded by a concrete jungle, that I just have to escape sometimes. I bet you, there is an unbroken line that can be drawn on interlocked concrete all the way from San Diego to Los Angeles...

Sorry to harp on this, but re my post here (http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=3333.msg28592#msg28592) (and earlier ones) I have just tried the new BZ7 theme (and I like it even more than the BZ8  :)) but still the left blocks aren't visible.

The SMF default theme and Amber work fine (I haven't tried others).

Any ideas? (I've followed all the advice given so far with no success  :'()

I've tried on three different computers - one using Windows 98, one with Windows ME and one with Windows XP Pro.  I'm using both Firefox and IE on each computer.

Thanks for listening  :)

Post by: Gidget on March 16, 2006, 11:38:37 PM
Well I just installed Opera on my XP machine - no difference  :'(

Frustrating it may be, but I can't complain about consistency  ;D

I also tried another 4 or 5 different (older) themes from the list and they all work fine.  The only themes I'm having problems with are the BZ7 and the BZ8  :-\

Also, in case this info has got lost, it isn't only that the left column is blank, but there are no collapse/expand buttons showing either in these two themes.

Cheers

I am almost certain its because the theme(s) use newer css code..so the challenge is to get it to work everywhere. i will do more tests on older browsers, to see whats happening.

Gidget, would you mind sharing your login? I have a hard time believing that you can't see these columns when everyone else can. I will login and see if I can duplicate what is happening on your account. That is completely up to you though. If you don't trust me I understand.

Goose I may well be, but ...

where exactly are the upshrink buttons in the BZ7 and BZ8 themes?  I can't see them anywhere (as reported earlier).  I logged out when I gave you access and just logged back in, and nothing has changed  :'(

Could you possibly post a screenshot of what the upshrink buttons look like?

Sincerely

Ok, well it appears that those themes have them already upshrinked for you. Bloc hasn't put any upshrink buttons to control them in the theme I think. For now, I would just switch to another theme until he fixes that for you. Its not your problem that you can't change them. You should see upshrinks in all the other themes I think. If you don't, post which ones and I'll show you if they do.

Hi IchBin

Thank you so much - I was afraid I was going totally mad  :uglystupid2:

My first thought when Bloc changed the default theme was that I couldn't see the left blocks because I had them upshrinked the last time I visited, so I looked for a way to show them and couldn't find the usual buttons (see my first post (http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=3333.msg28090#msg28090) in this thread).

I'll just stay with the SMF default theme for the moment.  All the other themes I've tried are okay, but out of them all I like the SMF default the best  :)

hm, the arrows to upshrink should be present in every block? Although a bit light in color maybe :)

..if you hover in the right corner of each blocktitle, do you get indication of a link?
Title: Re: v0.9 :)
Post by: Gidget on March 17, 2006, 10:14:24 AM
Hi Bloc

Here's a screenshot of the top section of my Bz8 screen.  There aren't any visible upshrink arrows, and no matter where I move my mouse across the top, the cursor doesn't change to indicate the presence of an arrow.  The complete left block area beneath the coloured blocks in the top left is completely blank - you can just see the start of this area in the screenshot.

Hi Lesmond

Yours looks like mine, except that you've got the left blocks showing  :).  The 64-million dollar question is: do you have any upshrink arrows where you can shrink the left blocks and extend the Forum across the whole screen?  I couldn't see any upshrink arrows on your screenshot.

Where are you looking for the upshrink arrows? the only ones I see are on each of the left blocks
Title: Re: v0.9 :)
Post by: Gidget on March 17, 2006, 11:57:31 AM
Hi Lesmond

Usually in Bloc's themes there are upshrink arrows (often these are triangles that change their orientation when clicked) to close or open the entire left block area and/or the entire right block area.  These upshrink arrows are additional to the ones whereby you open or collapse individual blocks.

It seems that the right and left "column" upshrink arrows are missing from these two themes, Bz7 and Bz8 (or they have been realised in a different way).  I think my problem arises because I mostly have only the middle column open (i.e. the left and right columns are collapsed) and I seem to be stuck in Never-Never Land without a way to re-open (display) the left column blocks.

I'm sure Bloc will come to the rescue  ;)

Cheers

Bloc, what I was pointing out (as Gidget is doing) is that you do not have the upshrink for the columns. I'm sure you have the upshrink for each block, but she cannot upshrink the whole column because I don't think you have put them in the theme. :)

Just an update on my viewing problems with the Bz7 and Bz8 themes ...

Using the Bz7 I can now see my left blocks so that's a plus which I'm sure is due to Bloc :)

The Bz8 hasn't changed - I still get a left column which is completely blank.

I still don't have any upshrink arrows on either theme so the left column is always visible (with or without blocks).

Cheers

No, the themes do not use upshrink for the leftbar..so thats as it should. But if Bz7 works, then i will update BZ8 with the same fix.
Title: Re: v0.9 :)
Post by: Gidget on March 25, 2006, 09:49:17 AM
Thanks Bloc  :)

Speaking personally, it's a pity that the left bar isn't intended to collapse in these two themes because in this configuration the Forum is too "squishy" for me to use comfortably, since I use a screen resolution of 800 x 600.  I expect it's fine in higher resolutions, and I'll just stick with the SMF default theme which allows me to expand the Forum to fill the screen.

Thanks again for the fix Bloc.

Cheers

Yes, I see. Its actually a problem i haven't solved yet. Since the theme use much css with negative margins etc, its hard to make it shrink instantly.
