Hi Guys
I asked this one on the old site but due to ill health I had sometime out & the site moved :-\
Ok here's what I'd like Tiny Portal to do
I have a block with some links on my front page created by HTML block now I'd like to a create new page for each link
How would I go about that ???
Thanks in advance O0
If you could give us more info ranger, and it would help if you give the info called for in the Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=581.0)
Having said that where would the links go, to an internal page (article) for example, or an external site?
If I understand your question correctly.
Create a article for each page and link to them. Each article is a new page.
Hope you are feeling better now. ;)
OOPS sorry
The page in question is here http://www.welshbikers.co.uk/forum/index.php
Near the bottom you'll find some motorcycle logo's
Once members click on them I'd like it to open a new page I'd also like to make the landing page a custom URL ie www.welshbikers.co.uk/bike-reviews-kwasaki.php
I already have some reviews on my front page that are doing really well in Google so Id like to move them over to TP using them same URL so I don't lose my rankings
Here's the thread from the old site. ;) http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=32877.msg263986#msg263986
I thought you said it worked. ???

I also lose my balance which when this first happend it was frightening but it's something ive learnt to live with & tend to see the funny side when it happens as long as it don't hurt ^-^
It's vestibular & may or may not clear up
Just thought id better explain didnt wont peeps thinking I was fibbing
So back on track what I must of done is delete my work left it for a while then forgot about it ;D
Windows 7 sticky notes are great I got them all over my pc but aint got one of rthis topic
Sorry folks :idiot2: O0
I'll have another go thanks all for your help
Hi Ranger,
So, you were robbieuk on TinyPortal, right? OK, I think we can fix you up with a little creative coding.
First of all, there was no reason for you to explain your situation with the wreck last year though I appreciate you doing so. Many of us have a few problems that we have to deal with though most are probably not as severe as yours are (Ask Crip sometime about his situation and how he deals with it). I'm certainly sorry this happened to you. Most of the time, we try to be careful about not overloading anyone with information when we are helping them but sometimes we don't do as good a job at that as we should. If there is anything you ever don't understand, please feel free to ask us to repeat ourselves or ask for some further explanation. We're here to help you, not to hurt you. With that being said, let's continue.
In looking at the block at the bottom of your FrontPage, I can see links (with pictures) to 13 different pages. In hovering over those images, I can see that the first 3 (Aprilia, BMW, and Ducati) are linked to TP article pages, 2 of which aren't active yet. The other 10 images seem to link to other pages outside your Forum that you currently have just a generic page setup, each of which is titled "Welsh Bikers Holding Page". Am I right so far?
OK, Is this how you want to set this thing up, with 3 of the reviews being TP Articles and the other 10 being static pages elsewhere, or are you wanting to have all of the review pages setup as individual TP articles? It's important to know this so that we can write the code correctly that you will need to use in the block.
What you are trying to do might best be done using a few little javascript tricks. Let me show you what I mean. You are using SMF 2.0 RC3 and TinyPortal 1.0 beta 5-1 but this could just as easily be done with earlier versions of SMF/TP. First of all, I would like for you to take a look at this site and read through it (just the text) --> http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/javascript/popupwindows.html
It's not necessary for you to understand what they are talking about on that page. It's only necessary for you to understand that what they are talking about can be used on your site and will work well. The review pages themselves can be TP Articles (if you have created them) or can be static pages on your site, or even mixed up, but all the pages will have to be on your own server in order for this method to work properly. So, let me give you an example of how this method works on my own test site --> http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/smf2test/index.php
On my FrontPage, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you will see a block in the left panel titled "Systems". In that block are 6 text links but they could just as well have been images as you have in the block on your site. The top one is "Brown Dwarf". Clicking any of the 6 will open a popup window that will show you what that link consists of. BTW, they are all images in the case of my test site but each one could just as well be one of your reviews. After viewing one or more of them, close each popup that opens (BTW, there is also a method that will let you put a "Close this Window" link in each popup, and also a method that will let you put a "Close the popup" link in the parent window but there's no reason to talk about that right now as it will probably only confuse you).
OK, by now you should have read the page that details the method and you should have also looked at the examples on my test site.
So, how can we use this on your site? Well, each of your images of the motorcycle names can be linked to a different page, whether it is a static page or a TP article. When you click one of them, that page will open up a popup that will contain the review for the particular link that you clicked. When your member is finished reading the review, they will simply close the popup.
If all this sounds good to you, the only thing left to do is to write the code, or edit the code that you currently have in the block. So, here's what I need for you to do. First of all, post the code you are currently using in that block right here, in your next post. Make sure to use the code tags (#) so that I can see it formatted correctly. Secondly, I will need all of the links to all of the review pages so you will need to post those as well. If you haven't yet created all of the review pages, you should go ahead and do that first. Also, it's a good idea to setup your reviews to use all the same width because the popup window will always be the same width and height, though you can change it for all.
I will wait to hear back from you and we can get started on this.
ZarPrime
thanks for all the advice & help ZarPrime yes I was robbieuk I should have signed up as the same on here to stop the confusion but Im also known as Ranger on other sites so that got the better of me.
I started to change things around last night (Aprilia, BMW & Ducati) but the way your explaining it was what I wanted to do in the first place so I'll change it all back soon & start again
TinyPortal is a great tool, A little confusing at times but a great tool O0
Ok here goes
I did have & want welshbikers.co.uk/kawaski-reviews.php leading into a section where you can pick a review IE ZX6R OR ZX10R
they would be in a list with hyperlinks leading to the review it's self
a bit like what I have started now on the Aprilia link here
http://www.welshbikers.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=aprilia_motorcycle_reviews
If I'm able to keep the URL welshbikers.co.uk/aprilia-motorcycle-reviews.php which was on my forum front page that would be great & I could have the model list on that then use a TP article for the actual review??? (Am I ok so far..)
Pop up pages for the actual reviews are a great idea O0 I'd be more than happy with that
So just to recap & not confuse anyone
(front page with all the logos on) - you click on a logo & are taking to a list of bike models which are all different hyperlinks
You click on the links & this would pop up into a model review
Here's the code I'm using on the block at the moment

Sorry :-[ I did try but couldn't get it to work for some reason
Thanks for changing it O0
ranger,
OK, give me a day or so to work on this and I will get back to you on it.
ZarPrime
Ranger,
OK, try this code in the block (HTML & Javascript code type block) instead of what you are using now. If I have done everything right, clicking on any of the images should open up an 800px by 650px popup window with the correct content. It works fine on my test site (scroll to the bottom) --> http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/smf2test/index.php
Here's the code (I've left some gaps in the code so that you can figure out what's going on) ...
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
var newwindow;
function poptastic(url)
{
newwindow=window.open(url,'name','height=650,width=800,left=50,top=50,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes,toolbar=yes,status=yes');
if (window.focus) {newwindow.focus()}
}
// -->
</script>

DO you think it's the theme javascript messing it up?
**UPDATE**
I seemed to have found the problem everytime I place the html in the block & save TP deletes this part

Wasn't this a known problem with TP 1.0 Beta 5-1? Ranger, what version of TP are you running?
Actually it was for a php block, found the bugtracker thread, (sorry).
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=32515.msg261360#msg261360
Ranger,
Sorry, I was out for most of the day.
If you are using the editor on the Block edit screen, look for the HTML button and click it. It looks like this --> <>
Then put the code in and immediately save the block. It should save properly then. LMK if it doesn't.
ZarPrime
Nah still the same >:(
I'm using 5.1 so I'm going to upgrade later today & see if that makes a diference O0
OK, LMK what happens. You shouldn't have a problem with it but, if you do, try setting up a php block and putting the code in that instead. The first time you save it, you'll get a php error. Just go back in and change the block type from php to an HTML and Javascript block and save, and then it should be cool.
