Title: TPDownload showing HTML
Post by: SpiderPig on May 25, 2010, 04:03:59 PM
Im getting so fustrated with the TP install.
When i upload a file, i write the description and all. then i go back to look at the downloads section after i uploaded the file and the text is in html instead of just txt. do i deleted it all and re-did it and it always shows the html.

why and how do i turn it off.

im running SMF 1.1.11 and TP 1.- B5-1

Thanks

Are you putting your description in the textbox while in code mode? Have you tried disabling the editor in the download manager settings to see if the problem still exists?

Judging from the many topics that you have on problems, it sounds like your install did not complete. Have you gone through the manual install to make sure everything was done? File edits, file uploads, and database changes?

I have not went through the manual to confirm then install. quite frankly where would i start? When you install SMF and it completes fine and you can post and you get no errors then you assume its right and move on. Then when you install TP on top of SMF and all goes well and you can post and everything looks good, you move on. One would assume the install is working correctly and not assume its broken and start sifting through the manual for nothing since its working fine.
Most of my install works fine except a few wierd things, one of which is this tpdownload display problem.
I attached a screenshot of the editor. Its pretty straight forward, so straight forward that its kinda stupid. Ill walk you through it since you dont seem to follow me:
You create a new download and as such, you type the description in the wysiwyg editor (see attached screenshot). That is how TP is designed, right? you just type the description (nothing to smart about this).
Then you upload the file (all works great).
Then you go back and click on the file in the forum and it seems to be ok and looks ok.
Now at this point should i stop and say OMG its so messed up and start looking through the manual for a bad install, NO.
So then if i click on the "general" category it shows the files in general and in the "recent" section below, it shows in html instead of the normal display. Now i have a problem.
So i dont think im going to re-install or spend hours going through the manual to fix this one so thats why i posted here.

On top of it, when i use IE the TP Download section looks like crap(as per my other post) but when i use Firefox it seems to look right. You know when you have days and days into a forum install and customization you tend to want to simply fix the few things that are not working.

Im not on crack and i dont think you share my frustration.
This is very aggravating, i have so many days and hours into just a few of these glitches/bugs/whatever they are and i cant get my board online. I dont know how to fix them and i have to just sit here racking my brain trying to figure them out. My next step is to wipe the whole thing and try again, but thats ridiculous just for something like this, but maybe thats the Tiny Portal way!

SpiderPig, this may not be the answer to your issue but here's a question that needs to be asked:
When you enter your text into the editor do you already have the html tags included with the text?

The point is that when you first see the editor it's in the wysiwyg mode and if your are wanting to enter some formatted text you must switch it over to the text mode by clicking on the green double '<>' symbol.

EDIT: You can also turn the editor off to see what effect that has on the text output.

i dont know if this is related or not, but when i first go there as you said im in wysiwyg mode but when i click on the <> button, the box then disappears. i have to refresh the page to get the editing box back. Does this in both IE and Firefox.
and i dont have any html in the text box. i just was writing the description by itself. i even deleted all the text out and re-entered it so something put in the html. The strange part is that when you go to the file to download it looks correct. i attached a screenshot to show you. So in one place its right and in another its wrong. Strange

I don't know where you got the impression that I said you should reinstall everything. I simply asked you to verify that all things were done. That doesn't mean you have to remove or add anything.

Now I'll admit, I had actually confused you with another person. So I had thought you had more problems than you really do. So that was my mistake. But don't for a minute think that I don't share your pain. I deal with people asking questions here all the time because they are frustrated. You are not the first, and certainly won't be the last. I'm not sure I said anything to make you think I didn't....

When you click the <> code button in the editor, it takes you out of the wysiwig mode. You can then click the "hide html" button at the bottom to get back into wysiwig mode. No page refresh should be necessary.

You still haven't answered my question.
QuoteHave you tried disabling the editor in the download manager settings to see if the problem still exists?

So you have showed that it looks different on different pages. Can you give us links so we can see which pages you are viewing? This will help us to test the same thing out on our installs.

if i turn off the html editor in the TPDownloads settings and then add a file, it works fine. maybe that will be the short answer. But i think there is still a bug in the TPDownloads.
Also, you mentioned that there is a "Hide html" button and i dont see one. if i click the <> button i cant get back.

Signup and ill put you as an admin. I set it so that anyone can upload a file so try it out.
Please try in IE and forefox and look at the difference between the two. IE is all messed up with it.

That is why I asked you to try it. Because I cannot replicate your issue. If it is doing that for you, there may be a bug that only happens under certain setups.

The problem with the editor disappearing has something to do with your theme. I'm not sure yet, but you can see this by viewing your upload page in the default theme.
http://www.delmarvasupport.com/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=upload;theme=1

Try clicking the code button and then you'll see the proper editor with the html button afterwards.I turned the editor back on for this. I'll take a look at your theme to see if I can find what is causing it.

Cool, i appreciate it. Im starting to think the other problems might be from the theme also. im gonna try a different one and see if i have the same responses.
Thanks for your help.
