for example
this thread http://www.tinyportal.net/help/index.php?topic=29

has
follow these instructions to manually make the code changes necessary to the files in the TP folder.
   Ã¢â,¬Â¢   http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php/topic,140.html

but that link simply resolves to the initial contents page..

i have clicked the 1 beta 5 install package and it completed, but i was hoping to manually edit the 3 errored php files (index, index template and subs.php) after

but now am not sure how/where  to manually edit..

please help thx :)

stog,

There has not been a manual install doc written specifically for the newest version of TinyPortal.  However, if you did the uninstall of your previous version, the newest version (TP 1.0 beta 5-1) should install with the Package Manager.  Did you try to do the install that way?

If you still need to do some manual edits, the .mod file for the version of SMF you are installing to in the TP zip file should give you the information you need.  For instance, if you are installing to SMF 2.0 RC3, the .mod file you need to look in would be "tinyportal200rc3.mod".

Hope this helps,
ZarPrime

thx

i am in smf 1.1.11

and have just uninstalled tp 0.98
Title: Re: looking for manual install for tp 1 beta 5

Then the file you will need to look at it "tinyportal1090.mod".

ZarPrime

Edit:  BTW, if you were installing to SMF 2.0 RC3, the index.template.php file or files would require no edits.

sorry bout this but while looking in subs.php for
if ($setLocation == $scripturl)

i can only find
// Add the scripturl on if needed.
if ($add)
$setLocation = $scripturl . '?' . $setLocation;

should i still replace
with if ($setLocation == $scripturl && !$tp_not)

OK, I'm not sure what you're looking at so let's do this --> Go to this page on the SMF site for TinyPortal --> http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=97

Once you are there, over there on the right below "Download this mod", select SMF 1.1.11 from the dropdown and click the parse button.  This will give you all the edits on one page.

I don't see the edit you mention in your post above.

NP, and, FWIW, as I was reading back through this topic, you have pointed out something that we are going to need to look at in the near future, and I appreciate it.  What it is, is this.  Our Doc site is now in a folder rather than being on a sub-domain like it was.  Because of this, it is likely that a lot of the links in various Doc topics are no longer valid.  Case in point, you mentioned the following link going to the initial Docs page ...
http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php/topic,140.html

That is the old link to the manual install instructions and in fact that link should now be http://tinyportal.co.uk/help/index.php/topic,140.html

That means that we have some work ahead of us.  Thanks for pointing this problem out. ;) Anyway, can I mark this topic solved now?

ZarPrime

Edit:  You may have to run the install again.  Try it without doing that first though.

Yes, in FrontPage Settings look for "Show avatars in forumposts?    No   Yes".

If you were using TP 0.98, then this will be quite a bit different for you.  Many new options that were not available in TP 0.98.  Enjoy it. ;) Topic marked solved. O0

no FrontPage Settings  "Show avatars in forumposts?    No   Yes".can be seen

i have got i beta 4 on other forums but this one i have been reluctant to upgrade because it was fine but security infiltration (shell in old tp-images folder) has forced the upgrade

It should be there if you have installed TP 1.0 beta 5-1.  See attached image.

I'd guess you're installed isn't complete stog. That option shows for me on my SMF1.1.xx install on that page just fine.

<Hah Hah> That pic looks very familiar.  You know why?  It's because, for some reason, I think you have installed TP 1.0.5 beta 1 (a very old version), not TP 1.0 beta 5-1 (the newest version).  I say it looks familiar because I also still have a Forum using that same older version.

What does it say for TinyPortal in the copyright at the bottom of your FrontPage?

OK, do you want the newest version then?  If so, uninstall the one you have and download this one and install it instead --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item1331

OK, you should still be able to get to your Admin area unless you have blocks set to show in the Admin section.  If you can get there, go to the Blocks section and turn off all the blocks that are html and javascript blocks.  See if that fixes the issue.  LMK.

am starting to turn off html js blocks - but still same error on homepage

There are actually 2 lines that are missing the comma at the end of the line.  Lines 2148 and 1841 in the TPortal.php file both need the comma at the end of the line.  Have a look at this bug report --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=bugtracker;sa=bug560

I should have remembered this.  It's only an issue with SMF 1.1.11 installs, not SMF 2.0 RC3 installs.

Also, I meant to ask you something else.  Since you are using SMF 1.1.11, did you set your Forum to the default SMF theme (theme=1) before doing the install?  That would also help to eliminate errors.

yes but when it got frantic later on i may have 'faulted'! i got more tabs and windows open than when my cat walks on the keyboard!

 :laugh: :2funny: That's funny.  I know the feeling.  There are many times when I have 30 or 40 tabs open myself. :D

OK, if you've got the FP back, clear out your error log and then start turning the html and javascript blocks back on one at a time and see what happens.  Also, take it out of Maintenance Mode if you had it set on and give it a test run.  I'll stay on tonight as long as you are still working on it.

my custum theme unfortunately isn't working - have played with its css but to no avail

seems ok in core

menus are screwed and i'm toying with using backups and trying again another day

but thx again for your support

this is a common error log Undefined index: by

ok decided to go live!! now after  a couple of hours sleep!

nothing lost and now more secure is the good news, but the bad is that i need to tidy up what we have left -- a lot of debris and re-arranging needed! and the custom green theme isn't compatible at the moment so we may be blue for a few weeks (core ok)
shout errors for different lines in
QuoteFile: /home/********/fibsboard.com/user/htdocs/Themes/default/languages/TPShout.english.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 166

and still errors as per previous post with tportal

this thread could be useful for others who have delayed upgrading from 0.98 - but i think that 0.98 is compromised -- i got a horrible shell disguised as a php in images/tp-images folder - so i would recommend upgrading

for this reason i shall continue asking/searching here rather than starting new threads ..
for example to get my custom theme working do i copy the tp files from the default theme folder along with the index template to the custom folder?
just about to try! ok just the template it seems  :2funny:

thx zar prime for all your help thro the night  ;)

ok we r green again --great

OK, well, I just woke up.  Took a break at midnight and watched Star Trek - TNG and then fell asleep.

I just checked your site and it looks fine.  One thing to keep in mind which may be of use.  When you were using TP 0.98, your custom theme required special edits to custom themes to make them work.  From TP1.0 and onward, any theme that is designed for SMF will work with TinyPortal except you would have to add a Forum button when using SMF 1.1.x.  This may have had something to do with your problems with the custom green theme.  Special Note:  One other thing for future reference.  One day, when you decide to switch to SMF 2.0 RC3, or beyond, you won't even have to put the forum button in as TP 1.0 beta 5 for SMF 2.0 adds the Forum button on any custom theme that works with SMF 2.0.

Some of the other errors you are having could very have to do with custom block codes but, for the most part, it looks like you have it working.  I'm on here for a little while if you need me.

OK, well, let's do one or two things at a time. ;)

Quote from: stog on May 22, 2010, 02:18:42 PM
but if you look on my front page (u may need to refresh constant edits still!) you see the top 2 posts i use for announcing have their original dates in big script -- can i get rid of the dates i wonder?

In TPAdmin, under FrontPage Settings, look for "Layout Types".  It defaults to "Normal Article".  Try one of the other layout types.  Most of them have smaller dates.  Layout Type #7 (Use custom template) may just give you the look you want.

Quote from: stog on May 22, 2010, 02:18:42 PM
and i am trying toggling shout block options re language etc

Not sure what you mean by "language etc" but besides editing the features of the block itself, you also have settings specifically for the Shoutbox Module.  Those are under "TPShout" and then click settings.

layout types are as attached below -- the custom -- refers to the editable text below ? i will continue playing with it - i did try editing before, but didn't click the custom button - which explains y it made no difference thx  :uglystupid2:

thx for all this - hope my members appreciate it? but suspect most won't :) -- but this running commentary of an upgrade in one thread, will be very useful to many folks i suspect -- cheers

OK, well, if you mess something up in the custom code, LMK and I'll give you the code to get back to the default.  In the next TP update, Bloc will be putting a "reset" button of sorts in there so that you can get back to the default easier if you mess it up.  Also, try the other standard layouts as well.  There is at least one that doesn't show the date.

Here, try this code in the textbox for the custom layout.  I removed the date from the title bar ...

<div class="tborder article render1">
<div class="windowbg2" style="margin: 0; padding: 0; overflow: hidden;">
<h2 class="catbg article_title">{article_title} {article_category}</h2>
{article_avatar}
<div class="article_info">
{article_author}
{article_date}
{article_views}
{article_rating}
{article_options}
</div>
<div class="article_padding">{article_text}</div>
<div class="article_padding">{article_moreauthor}</div>
<div class="article_padding">{article_bookmark}</div>
<div class="article_padding">{article_morelinks}</div>
<div class="article_padding">{article_globaltags}</div>
<div class="article_padding">{article_comments}</div>
</div>
</div>

See if that gives you the look you want. ;)

ZarPrime

EDIT:  If you want to remove the Board it was posted to (in Front Page) change the 3rd line to this ...

<h2 class="catbg article_title">{article_title}</h2>
