I asked this over at the SMF forum, but maybe this is a better place to ask:
Is it possible to use a TinyPortal mod in SMF without having TinyPortal installed? I've been looking for a reviews mod, and found one for TP, but I want to use it in SMF.
Probably not. The code that is posted here is designed to be used with TP. You can look at it and see if there's some other way to install it, but it's likely supposed to be with TP. You might be able to alter it yourself or you could ask the author to do it for you.
I now found that someone asked this exact same question in the thread for the mod, with the answer it would need to be completely re-written. Too bad. :(
bit confused by these kind of questions...
surely you could install TP and turn ALL the panels off.. then use the appropriate TP mod, although where you'd put the link to it i dunno :D
ed_m, I agree, you can turn of most things TP, not that I would want to, umm not sure how though, a new menu link might work, I will have to have a test on this one!
Most any theme will accept a new or extra button fairly easily, just need to find out from the theme author how to code it in.
As for the reviews address, it should look something like this:
or i'm assuming you might post a link in a forum thread.
KidCactus,
As you can see from the posts that others have made, the TP Reviews Module is not an SMF Module, it is a TinyPortal Module. So, to use it, the bottom line is that you must install TinyPortal.
I think the real problem here is why you have a problem installing TinyPortal, especially since you can hide the fact that TinyPortal is installed by setting the FrontPage to go straight to the Forum and turning off all of the panels. The only indication that TinyPortal is installed would then be the TinyPortal Copyright at the bottom of the page. So, what is the real problem?
