Related Error messages: When one of my webteam tries to save edits to TP articles, they are getting this error:
An Error Has Occurred!
Sorry, you aren't allowed to fetch news. The webteam has almost all permissions. Driving me nuts and I am already sick as a dog since January. Just hope someone can help me w/ this. I'm an idiot when it comes to programming. With my luck it's right under my nose. :uglystupid2:
Thanks for looking...
sturmkatze,
There were some bugs in previous versions of TinyPortal having to do with non-Admin users being able to edit their own articles. Did you search the bugtracker? Link is here and a search for "edit article" would find some bugs --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=bugtracker
This is probably the bug you were looking for ...
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=bugtracker;sa=bug451 (Fixed for TP 1.0 beta 4)
Here is the actual post showing the same behavior you are seeing in the attached pic ...

:o I tried that, but it is throwing massive errors when trying to install upgrade. I wasn't gonna go any further ::)
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

sturmkatze,
This is happening for 1 of two reasons. Either you have installed some SMF Mods after you installed TinyPortal that rearranged lines in certain files and thus the the TinyPortal install can't figure out what to do, or you are trying to do this without your Forum being set to the SMF default theme.
My suggestion would be to switch to the default theme, do a clean uninstall of the version of TP you are using now with the Package Manager, and then install the newer version. If this doesn't work, then you will need to do a manual uninstall and install. As bad as this sounds, this is something you are going to want to eventually do, to get the added functionality and security enhancements contained in newer versions.
If you decide to do this, let us know and we will give you the links to topics that will tell you how to do the manual uninstall and install. It really isn't that difficult.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you on this. Work heated up and I just haven't had time to fool w/ this website. If I do it this way, will I have to manually install this on all the themes? I have 5-6 I think and I always seem to end up in trouble when I do things like this.
I should have a few hours tonite, I am just afraid of messing it up and then having to work for all my days off on this thing to get it back. :o
Tonite, I will switch to the default theme and uninstall the version of TP I have. Then will try and install 4. BTW, when is 5 out? I have seen mention of it, but haven't seen it anywhere...
Thanks for your help!!! ~Marsh
I decided to try it quick... nope. Got this below... Frustration reigns... >:(

So, home later. It won't even let me uninstall the old TP. This blows :tickedoff: FRAK! All I wish to do is be able to update stuff. Manually doing this is more than scary to me--the last time I tried manually doing an update, I really messed it up and it took HOURS and a friend in a European country helping me to fix it.
Any great ideas or tips on this? I changed all themes back to default before I tried this too.

If you've upgraded SMF to a version that the old TP did not recognize you will not see the uninstall link. Uninstall your SMF upgrades (last one first) until you can see it then uninstall the old one. Then reinstall the SMF upgrades again.
Oh, it HAS the uninstall link. When I hit it, I get this here

It"s frustrating. I am not a programmer. I don't want to have to manually update things at each update. The themes are all modded and of course, that will be a nightmare to redo. Ack. It doesn't help that I don't get into this except when something doesn't work. I use SMF/Tp as a tool, it isn't my hobby, so it makes it hard.
That usually happens because another mod you have installed that uses the same line of code and has edited it. Mods look for an exact piece of code. When they do not find it you get a "Test Failed".
For instance, the first line of code will not be the same as the 2nd although they contain the same things.
Quote1, 2, 3, 4
Quote1, 3, 2, 4
Or even:
Quote1, 5, 2, 3, 4
Another mod may have put the "5" in there and will cause another mod to to "Test Failed". The only options are to manually add the parts that are missing or uninstall all mods and install them in a different order. Sometimes that helps. The problem with the 2nd option is that you may get "Test Failed" when you uninstall some of your other mods and will have to manually remove the code anyways.
You don't have to be a programmer to remove or add code. Just make sure that you backup those files first so you can easily add them again if there is a problem. :)
Do we have an emoticon for me running around in a circle and flapping my arms like a chicken??? How about one for my eyes glazing over and little puffs of smoke coming out of my ears :P
I know how you feel...been there myself. It may seem a little hard at first but is easier than you think.
Always remember to backup your files first...at least the ones you plan to edit. ;)

I don't think so. Where even to start? Really. What will I have to mod? All the themes? if it's two files, yes. A bunch of them and I start to freak. I am going to go walk the dogs again... :buck2:
Attach your Subs.php and index.template.php file here, we'll make the edits to remove TP from them. You can then uninstall TP with the failures. After you uninstall you'll just need to replace the files with your edited ones by us.
Okay, here are the 2 files. Let me understand, you will alter them so I can uninstall TP.
QuoteAfter you uninstall you'll just need to replace the files with your edited ones by us.
So then, you will send me more files to replace these with? Before or after I go to install newest version of TP.
IS beta 5 available yet? Will I have to then do all this to add it? I thought 4.0 had a problem w/ security or permissions or allowing people to see folders that were not supposed to be seen?!
Here is other file
Marsh,
BTW, do you still have the SMF default theme installed on your site? I looked at your site late last night and couldn't see the SMF default theme but that could simply be because you are keeping anyone from viewing your site with that theme (theme #1).
ZarPrime
THAT is exactly what I did. It's there. I just have it so they can't use it. Hell, I still need to tweak all these, I just have too much to do. I like TP enough that I converted a number of my sites to it. Yes, I'm an idiot. reenactor.Net is driving me nuts as I can't update SMF to latest, but that will have to wait.
This thing is great and w/ all the add-ons, you can get awesome functionality out of it, but every once in a while... things like the FCKEditor, I really did need that. I paid a guy to make me a mod--works well w/ 4.0 :-) Anyway, I blather, I need to go eat. Will come back in a bit. If you need to have it on default, I can do it.
Here's your files. Make sure you backup before uninstalling of course. Then just continue with the uninstall and replace your files with these.
Do I upload these first or just uninstall w/ errors and then upload these?
I re-read your posts and did this (as I understood it to be--I am kind of an idiot at this:
1. Uninstalled TP w/ failures.
2. FTPed new files over old ones.
3. Tried to re-install new TP and got this:
Apply Mod
Please remember to always make regular backups of your sources and database before installing mods, especially beta versions.

Hit install anyway, taking a chance I am an idiot ( I am) and it seems to have worked. Did i do it wrong?
The only thing it does to the index.template.php file is add a forum button. So if you are missing that in your default theme then you'll just need to add that. Your install should be fine though.
