Title: Tinyportal and FTP
Post by: bungle9512 on February 20, 2010, 08:01:01 PM
I have uploaded some files into the tp_downloads directory on my webserver, but when i try to assign them to a category it will not allow me to. They are about 50 .zip files. Is there a way that i can tell tinyportal where the files are on my webserver instead of uploading the files individually?

thanks

bungle9512,

Welcome to TinyPortal.

Please Read and Follow the Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,581), and include the information requested in the template so that we can try to assist you.  Once I know what version of TinyPortal you are using, I can test this on one of my test sites.

bungle9512,

Well, I had to guess where your forum was located.  At first, I thought you weren't using SMF and TP since it says right on the page you linked that you were using ...
"CMS by PHPNUKE    --    FORUMS by PHPBB"

Anyway, I found your SMF Forum and verified that you indeed have TP 1.0 beta 4 installed.  I have tested this on my TP 1.0 beta 4 test site this morning.  Here are the steps ...

1.  Upload your files to the /public_html/YourSite/tp-downloads folder.  Please note that this is "/tp-downloads", not "/tp_downloads".

2.  Go to the following area of your Forum Admin section ...
Admin --> TinyPortal --> TPDownloads --> FTP

3.  Put a check-mark in each box to the left of each file you want to assign.

4.  Drop down and select the category you want to assign these files to from the dropdown.  That category should already exist if you created it.

5.  Click the "Send" button.  Pic #3 attached below is an example of what you should see after you assign the files.

6.  Click "Admin" in the TPDownloads area and select the category you assigned the files to.  All files you selected to assign should now show up in the category.

The 4 pics below, viewed in order, show you what to do.  LMK if this answers your question.

As far as I know, if you are uploading a bunch of files via FTP, they must all be uploaded to the same folder, which is "tp-downloads".  However, when you assign them to a category, you should be able to place them into different categories that you have created and the downloads module will sort that out.

For instance, if you upload 50 files and want to place 25 of them into category "A" and the other 25 into category "B", you select the 25 files for Cat A and select Cat A in the dropdown and submit.  Then you select the other 25 files and select Cat B from the dropdown and submit.  Now, when you go to downloads, the files should be in the proper category.

This sounds pretty easy to me.  Is this not the way it's working for you?

I understand.  Still, it's much better than having to upload each one individually from within the Download Manager. ;)
