Title: BBcode
Post by: tunkadata on February 13, 2010, 08:45:06 PM
What a pain,

No one can say I never tried.  I tried tables, float right, blocks, css.

Nothing works. Someone over at SMF wanted an image like this:

http://www.jungaling.com/kimages/maddie.gif

I have a Maddie MacCann page on Wordpress so took a shotI have no other to show how I want it.

It works in Wordpress but with HTML. *Something should work because we have the CSS option but what I do not know.

Two days is long enough to try out everything.

Apparently the mod that would set the page out like that is broke.

Is this a TinyPortal question or a WordPress question?  Or is it not a question at all.  I'm not sure what this post is all about. :idiot2:

I think it's a TP/SMF question.

I'm guessing they want to lay out a page or article in TP/SMF the same as the image?

So, you are asking how to create a page like that using TP? I suggest using an HTML article. That way you can make it look like the WordPress page. If it does notwork using the TP built-in editor then turn the editor off and just use HTML code in a HTML article.

Sometimes, the editor does not work as intended. ;)

Zarpine,

The image was an example from a page made in Wordpreess not a Wordpress question.  :D

No, not TP because I am on RC2

It was more of a challenge really because the way SMF is coded it will never layout a page in such a way as my example. like I said I have tried all other options.

There  is a simple HTML flower example I just threw together. The only Html you get in SMF is img in the admin. If you are familur with HTML then you can see how simple the code is.

I love SMF but hate its restrictions.

MC knew what I meant..thanks MC.

Thanks to all of you here is the HTML

A Gerbara Flower" width="150" height="143" align="right" />nesciunt. Neque porro quisquam est, qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit, sed quia non numquam eius modi tempora incidunt ut labore et dolore magnam aliquam quaerat voluptatem.

Well, of course you can use an hhml article to layout a page like this with TinyPortal.  If you are trying to do it with some separate page in SMF without using TinyPortal, maybe using bbc code or something, then that would be a lot harder to do, IMHO.

In a matter of minutes this morning, I setup an html article on 2 of my SMF/TP test sites, one using TP 1.0 beta 4 and the other using the soon to be released TP 1.0 beta 5.  Of course, I didn't have the flower picture, so I used a couple of other pictures instead.  They're not formatted exactly like your attached image but they're pretty close and with a little extra work, I could get them to show up exactly like your image.  I used a table to constrain the content.  The 2 articles , on the 2 different sites, are linked below.

On SMF 1.1.10/TP 1.0 beta 4 ...
http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/smf1test/index.php?page=14

On SMF 2.0 RC2/TP 1.0 beta 5 ...
http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/smf2test/index.php?page=11

SMF and/or SMF/TP is not a blog publishing application.  If you want to publish a blog, use Wordpress.  However, you can do the same thing with TinyPortal, if you know what you are doing. ;)

So you will say if you want a nice layout then get a blog lolol

I will say/ask the SMF coders to give us some leeway. At least allow the administrator the ability to have nice layout. I did not go down this road just for me you know zarprime, it was mainly to help a fellow member at SMF forums..

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=365020.new#new (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=365020.new#new)

I have three blogs in Wordpress, now I want the same nice layout in SMF...one day.

I mentioned also earlier I have not got TP because Bloc is not finished creating yet, or the beta is not ready.

It does not matter what pic you use, best size is 150 px 150 so it sits nicely right and left.

So if  HTML is possible in TP why can't it be implemented in SMF code. Even my chunk of code, and a bit of CSS would complete the look we would all love to have.

Maybe the coders will look at it with permissions.

The person who did the mod for this is unavailable and his mod does not work any longer

LOL, OK, I get it now.  You're trying to do this in Forum posts, not in articles.  Why didn't you say so in the first place. ;D

First of all, there is no bbc code equivalent for "float", otherwise it would work.  However, there is a little known bbc tag that is available (may only be available in SMF 2.0 rc2, I don't know) which will parse html.  Unless I am mistaken, I believe it only works for Admins though there may indeed be a permission that can be set.  I'd have to do some searching at SMF on that, but I might as well leave that up to you.  It won't work for me here, since I'm not an Admin, but if you tried this code in a post while you were logged in as an Admin, it would work for you ...

[html]html goes here[/html]

Now, you can see how this works in this post on my RC2 site here --> http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/smf2test/index.php?topic=16

The code I used is this  ...

[html]
<table style="text-align: left; width: 496px; height: 172px;"
border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2">
  <tbody>
    <tr>
      <td><img
style="width: 150px; height: 150px; float: left;" alt="Uranus"
title="This is a picture of Uranus"
src="http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/graphics/uranus.jpg">Sed
voluptatem sequi nesciunt. Neque porro<img
title="This is a picture of Saturn"
style="width: 150px; height: 150px; float: right;" alt="Saturn"
src="http://talesofthehavenexpanse.com/graphics/saturn.jpg"><br>
quisquam&nbsp;est, qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet,
consectetur, adipisci velit, sed quia&nbsp;non numquam eius modi
tempora incidunt ut labore et dolore magnam aliquam quaerat voluptatem.</td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>
<br>
[/html]

Edit:  I should mention that using the html bbc code tags in Forum posts is only available for Admins because it is a security risk, even for Admins (if they don't know what they are doing).  It should never be permitted for casual members of your Forum because of this.

AWE WELL,

Brilliant, that member will be so pleased. A bit more text underneath and its sorted I would think. It certainly a big...no a massive  improvement.

Many, many thanks for this. Yes, about the HTML for the members they will stick with BBcode.

Thats suits me no end zarprime look:

Excellent.  Sometimes with me, it only takes 2 times.  I guess this time, third time was a charm. O0

I'm glad you are happy.  I am too, even though this was an SMF question rather than a TP question.  Happy Valentine's Day.  :smitten: Topic solved. :up:

Yes it should have been SMF solution, I agree.

Maybe more people will come here lol as oppsed to SMF for the most complicated solutions.

Happy Vvalentine's day to you zarprime. That should be SMF fixed in all directions now.. I am sure I remember a time when we did'nt even have left, right, center icons in posts.

We'll both sleep easier in our beds tonight  :2funny: ;D :D

Thanks again.
