Seems no matter what I do, the fader will switch between items only in the forums built in feature for showing fader on the index, but none of these block codes or the one that comes with TP will allow news items to transition (fade). I've tested in 3 different browsers, too.

I have split your post out from the topic you posted in. I need to ask you a few questions. Your site seem to have been upgraded to SMF 2.0 RC2 and SimplePortal, unless we are talking about another site. If we are talking about your main site, I don't think we can help you at this time since you aren't using TinyPortal.
If you are talking about a different site with TinyPortal installed, Please Read and Follow the Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,581), and we will try to help you with the issue you are having.
