Things have changed at the and I tested the load times and got this. :'(
Connection Rate Download Time
14.4K 103.82 seconds
28.8K 52.01 seconds
33.6K 44.61 seconds
56K 26.85 seconds
ISDN 128K 8.36 seconds
T1 1.44Mbps 0.91 seconds
The one I have is faster than the fastest one in the list.3 secs for frontpage to load. I wonder if it is possible to have a tpforum with any kind of reasonable dial-up load time and still have it functional for what it is a website around a forum. It need to look halfway decent too don't it
I have already optimized the banner at the top and that cut the load time considerably. I think about in half. The clock needs to go and I need to replace the banner, with something else :tickedoff:
Question is,do people around here worry about load times. Seems you do not have to add much to hit 10 secs[too long?] on dial-up
You can check your own site here.

Pretty fun testing the site like that. thanks for the link.
This is what i got with all things set to go on my site.

Mine is pretty much the same as g6cad's. However, I am sceptical about sites offering testing sevices that are also selling the stuff so supposedly fix the problem. Quite often the results are weighted in their favour, or are written to look like their product will fix everything.
I get this:
- Connection Rate Download Time
- 14.4K 62.24 seconds
- 28.8K 31.22 seconds
- 33.6K 26.79 seconds
- 56K 16.15 seconds
- ISDN 128K 5.09 seconds
- T1 1.44Mbps 0.62 seconds
Love my T1.. ;D
I was wondering that myself. Maybe some people on dial up can verify.
That clock calendar is a biggy. It's gotta go :'(
You can optimize images free here

Mine at the top don't look much different and it used to be 120K now 50
"crip"
I can't imagine dial up. How could superQ get all the help he needs. There only so many hours in the day :2funny:

Not sure if this is the equivilant of UK Broadband or not. But I get 2.3M-2.5M and wouldnt be without it. Had 56K AOhelL before that, and never saw more than 28K. AOhelL cost more each month as well!!!
As everythng else, the less files and images, the faster things will perform. SMF native should be easy to watch on dialup. TP is just a tad worse, mostly because of use of extra images.
"the cure" is also easy enough: turn off images, use simple themes(less tables and "extra" html code) and in TP: avoid extra images and heavy code snippets.

T1 is slooooooow, Crip. Try fibre optics instead.
But your connection speed has zero effect on these results. It is measuring the speed with which your server renders the file(s) to the network, in this case, the WWW. Your content is a big part of it, but so is your host. Many hosts still rely on T1 or T3 connections, because they are cheap. But as the T1 rating above shows (1.44Mbps), it is a far cry from my 20-25Mbps fibre connection. It is way short of a good dedicated server's connection speeds.
Anyone running an accelerator to help out?
SuperQ, I went to your site (The Rockpile) using a USR 56K modem. It is painfully slow, but most folks on modems are used to that by now. Part of your speed might be lost in that logo, but for the size, you have it cut well down.
I've got:

I Know. The logo has to go :tickedoff: Removing it brings it down to like 37K which is pretty much normal. I would hate to lose it since I gotta think most people around here have what I have and it is a local type site. Of course the purpose of the site is geared toward the not so well off average joe
I am trying to think of something to put there, but I am no expert in this stuff.Given the fact that the page is still a little big with nothing in the logo space I don't have too many options.
I would like to have it look good upthere where the logo is, but the logo is too big although it is less than 1/2 the size it used to be with no noticeable difference to me.
I am curios as to whether or not it is just the first page that loads slowly and then all the rest would be faster[normal<10 secs maybe] reusing the images.
One more thing---I guess the logo.gif has to be on all the pages right. I mean it can't just be on one page right. I am not only talking about slowing the site down, but fitting on the screen. With all the stuff I have in my browser along with the logo it is almost 1/2 the way down the screen. :-\
You could check where you are and show it only in one section. For example just on the frontpage or just on forum-index.
Sorry bloc :uglystupid2: What was that---check what?

I have been meaning to talk to you about that elpvn. Could you please redo all your sites :2funny:
I have been testing a lot of sites ,none in particular, and most are "not good" with respect to load times. Especially if they look even halfway decent.
BTW elpvn both your sites load in no time for me
superQ, I've been test it with three time and show for u the forth time again (remaind my painsÃ, :'():

Something everyone has forgotten about, too. These site tools which tell you how long it takes to download a particular site
for the first time. They make no concessions for the browser's cache or system memory.
There are many worries about speed and size and complexity. If something is worthwhile, optimize it, but don't get rid of it. If things are still too slow, you might investigate a different Web host, since a minor change can make a world of difference. You will even find a difference in responses based on geography. Since you can't have everyone in one spot, just pick the fastest host you can find, then optimize from there.
Got another 18K knocked off the image and 5 seconds off the load time. I did not do it :uglystupid2: Someone on a graphics site did it.
