Just added an article to show on top of the forum page but the path to TPadm-article.gif is incorrect, where do I set the correct path?

I have done that and the path is incorrect.
Where does the link say the image SHOULD be then ? And when you see where, have you checked your files and folders on the server that the image is located there ? If it is, then you haver permission issues, if it's not, add the image to the folder the path looks for it
From what I remember, there are a couple issues with the TP images, and where they get copied to.
If you right click and see where the image should be, copy the images on the server to where the page is expecting them to be (from memory, I think it's normally from the default theme into whatever theme you're using)
and G6 just beat me to it!

Then your install must be wrong.
Make sure everything installed correctly and that all files, folders and code from tp got installed in it's place.

I hope that this does not damage the site, I have only just finished transferring over from VB and there is no way back.

It shouldn't damage the site.
If you download a copy of all the editted files listed in the manual installation guide, then make sure the necessary edits are done, it won't affect anything on the site.
If you do find any problems, simply correct the file, then upload it, and you shouldn't even notice any interruptions on the site (unless you add in a typo when editting!)
I am unable to find the following code in the theme I am using.

Skipp other themes then the default Core ( SMF default theme ) It's to that theme everything gets added as thats the foundation for everything, so keep working in the core theme ONLY until everything is set and working

Rather than carry out edits on your live site, I'd suggest you install wampserver (http://www.wampserver.com/) on your own computer, set-up SMF + TP onto it, then use that for devloping/testing before making changes to your live site.
Thanks for the link to wampserver but that would take all day to download as I am on dial up.

Followed the instructions for manual install and nothing has changed, at least it works so probably best to leave things alone.
Slight problem after the editing of files, if I try and visit admin I am prompted for password but when page refreshes it does not go to the admin panel, I have to log out and back in to gain access.
Did you do as i asked you to ? I still see your custom theme on your site.
On simplemachines you have a file called repair_settings.php, download that and use it as instructed on simplemachines.org
Already ran repair, I really do need to use the custom theme, is this causing the problems?
I don't want to get too involved with this topic as you are already getting support, but let me explain the use of the default theme.
All mods get installed to the default theme. therefore you should be using the default theme when installing mods. Custom themes use some custom files which override the default theme files when in use.
There are very few custom theme files that need to be edited to accommodate a mod, those that do will need to be edited manually and usually you can find instructions or support of which files to edit at the mod authors site.
tinyportal 1.*.* doesn't need to integrate into many custom theme files, if any at all. Most of the edits are to the default theme files, which are still in use regardless of which custom theme files are overriding other files.
You need to ensure all the edits to the default theme including paths are correct. repair_settings.php can help with the paths.

The menu, yes. Each theme has it's own menu and menu tabs are usually found in each theme's index.template.php file. This file along with the style.css file are often the most edited files.
The index.template.php file is also where some mods need to be integrated into.
OK, probably best to start again with a fresh install of the theme then.

Always keep all the work, modifications, extras etc to the default theme as that theme is the foundation of the whole site.
When everything is working in the default theme, then you go ahead with your custom theme, check what it adapts and whats not, whats not adapted, that is what you add to the custom theme,

You did explain it fine :) I just wanted to make sure the point was understood.
It is easier once you understand what's going on between the default theme and custom theme's and the way that custom files override the default.

The other thing about custom themes besides what Zetan and G6 was saying is that certain images that work fine with the default theme would need to have another instance of the image copied into the default theme's images folder. For instance, the badges that we have here for each of the team members, like Zetan's and mine for support and G6's for Admin, need to be in the images folder of the custom theme because the custom theme won't look for those images in the default theme.
Your members should understand, with a little advance notice, that you are working on the site temporarily so that if they see the default theme instead of your custom theme they will know that it's only temporary.

Lost the site completely now, ran upgrade which failed and now unable to access admin to take it out of maintenance mode, nearly time for bed I think. :(
Hmmm, well, if the site is at http://www.tropicalfishforums.co.uk/index.php I just looked at it and it doesn't seem to be in maintenance mode. Did you get it fixed or are we talking about another site?
