Title: Forum Width Issue at 100%...
Post by: lextalionis on October 14, 2009, 03:02:07 PM
Link to my site: http://www.motleypixel.com
SMF version: SMF ver. 1.1.9
TP version: TP ver. 1.0 beta 4
Theme name and version: Black Rain
Browser Name and Version: IE 7.0.5730.10
Mods installed: TPReviews, iFrame, YouTube, Ads Management (all current for SMF 1.1.9)
Related Error messages:  When I post a 1024X683 image it creates a horizontal scroll bar.

Okay, my forum width is 100%.  I have a post here:  http://www.motleypixel.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html and horizontal scrollbar is enabled due to size constraints.

This is the code for the images:

The post looks as I would like it to here:  http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110170

So is this a theme constraint or something I can adjust?  I do have a max upload resolution of 2000px longest side, but I think that setting is for uploaded attachments to a post.

Thanks,
Roy

Can't view the texaxphoto unless logged in. From the looks of it, you'll have to change the layout a bit. In the #wrap class in the style.css file, you can get rid of the padding where it has set padding:0 30px 30px;

That will expand the forum to the edges. Then in the Display.template.php file, you can shrink the part next to the post where the user information is. It shows it is set to 16% width. You can make that smaller too. However, I would advise you to just post smaller pictures. Those pictures are 1024 pixels wide. Which is what most people have their monitors already set at. So that leaves no room for anything else on the screen, which then causes scroll bars because it can't fit everything on the screen.

Thanks for the help...I'll give this a whirl.  You are right about 1024 imgs.  I can say that many photo forums that I do participate on I see a lot of 1024 due the the defacto "large" resolution of flickr images...many say the "medium" at 640 longest side is too small.

Thanks again,
Roy

Okay,

Removing the padding didnââ,¬â,,¢t yield the results as I would have expected.  Even though it expanded out the inner forum frame, I had one browser window open with the before change and then refreshed a new browser after the change and the physical post (where the post txt and images are shown) did not change it size.  This change did remove a grey border, see screen shots below (just the upper left which is the same as the upper right:

#1 Before style.css change:

#2 After style.css change (removed the wrap padding):

The user cell width changed from 16% to 12% made a nice change.  I tried 10% but that was just too small, but it did help alleviate some of the scroll bar.

I would have thought the wrap padding remove would have expanded the entire forum outer boarder to the edges, right?

Thanks,
Roy

Yes it will expand, if you actually set the .wrap class to 100% instead of 1100px's :)
