Title: New to TP and SMF - need some help!
Post by: maker on September 27, 2009, 02:21:17 AM
Hi,

I'm relatively new to TP and SMF (it's been a couple of years since I've used them)

I'm setting up a rpg forum for our group and I have a couple of minor issues.

First, here is the site http://www.thrbrn.com/rpg/

Now for the issues!

On the front panel I would like to have recent posts/welcome message/ and then forum posts as per the forum post setting in the panels and blocks admin.

I can't seem to work out how to get that last one?

Hopefully I am just overlooking a setting.

2nd Issue.

I'm using the SMF theme "Diablo 3" and I'm having a bit of trouble getting the 'forum' link to show up in the menu bar. I've read the TP doc about adding the array and tab to the index.template.php file but it doesn't seem to be showing up. Any advice? Am I right in thinking I am meant to edit the file in the diablo3 folder and not the one in the 'themes' folder? Or do I have that wrong?

Thanks, that's it for now!

I do not understand what you are saying about the first issue. You want two blocks and then the forum to show on your frontpage? You can't have front blocks show on the same page as the forum. You need to use upper blocks and then set your frontpage to go directly to the forum. This all assumes I know what you're saying... lol

2nd issue, post your code and the code from the buttons above and below your code.

What I mean is:

I want to display both the front panel and the forum post extracts.

Under the Front Page settings these are the options

Only forum-posts
Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date
Only articles
Featured article with frontpanel
Frontpanel
Go directly to forum index
TP module

I want to display the front panel AND the forum-posts and articles previews.

Is there a way to do this?

Is there a block code snippet I can add to the front panel (as php I assume) to call the forum posts as a block?

So you set Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date, then set - Frontpanel will be added before content

When I do that, the front panel does not display. (my front panel consists of bloc's recent posts code and a single article block)

maker,

I believe that you have encountered one of the known bugs in TP 1.0 beta 4 that is being worked on right now.

Try moving your recent posts and welcome message blocks from the front panel to the upper panel and set them to show on the FrontPage only, and then select "Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date" and see if that doesn't give you the look you want.  Let us know.

I'm having this same issue.  I tried the suggested work around but I'm unable to get the upper panel to appear at all.

Wheelspin,

Did you mark the upper block where to show?

You must use the :  Choose where the block should appear. [Show] [Hide]

near the bottom of the block edit to tell the block where to show at.

Gotcha.  There's so many ways of hiding/showing stuff in this software!

Any news on when the fix to the OP's original problem is due?

Wheelspin,

The issue mentioned by the OP should be fixed in TP 1.0 beta 5 once it has been released.  Admittedly, I haven't yet tested this personally with the most recent Alpha of beta 5, but after I install it on my test site in the next couple of days I will test this function to make sure it is working the way it's supposed to.  At this point, it won't be fixed in beta 4.
