Title: code brackets not working
Post by: DarkAngel612 on September 01, 2009, 09:54:44 AM
I posted this exact thing at SMF forums but my experience with them is...they see TP installed and almost always just say to come here and ask sooooo I did...lol

----------------------------------------------------
Code not working:

This is not the ones in the posting window...the buttons that is.

most of my global mods are learning the html and coding and having a ball. However,  this is what is happening when they copy/paste the code (this is how they are learning...first the copy/paste thing then they get courage and hand enter their code brackets:

[center][html]

<img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyNTE1Njk2MTk1NTMmcHQ9MTI1MTU2OTYzNzU4NyZwPTE2MTYwMSZkPXd3dy5xdWliYmxvLmNvbSZnPTEmbz1lZjk3YWZlMTVhOWM*Nzc5YTBlMmRjNWEwYTYxOWQyMiZvZj*w.gif" /><div align="center"> <object width="300" height="400" wmode="transparent" data="http://apps.quibblo.com/static/flash/qwidget/qwidget.swf?s=&amp;theme=quibblo&amp;quiz=aL-PLPd" allownetworking="all" allowscriptaccess="never" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">
<param name="movie" value="http://apps.quibblo.com/static/flash/qwidget/qwidget.swf?s=&amp;theme=quibblo&amp;quiz=aL-PLPd">
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="never">
<param name="allownetworking" value="all">
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">
<param name="bgcolor" value="ffffff">
</object> <br> <font size="1"> <a href="http://www.quibblo.com/">Quizzes</a> by <a href="http://www.quibblo.com/quiz/aL-PLPd/ARE-YOU-A-DOG-OR-A-CAT">Quibblo.com</a></font>

[/html][/center]

that is the sample code they try to enter...

1. they copy paste the above into a posting window
2. they click the post button

and all that is seen in the actual thread is the code for the item...when they should see the end result. (see image)

The admins do the same thing and we have no trouble with it but if a regular member or the mods try it the end result is that the window strips out the  parts leaving only the rest showing only code and nothing else.

I have checked and checked and checked the admin section so many times that m eyes are crossed from checking but is there anyplace back there to set it for all?

i checked in :
features and options
server settings
current theme settings
boards
post and topics
settings and frontpage
panels and blocks
membergroups
registration

I ran the forum maintanace section in case something ran amuk too

I have installed:
SMF v 1.1.10
Tiny Portal v 1.0 beta4

Mods installed:
paypal
profile music
wrap around text image
disable-decrease post count option
sf gallery lite (not used anymore)
font and size drop down menu
you tube bbcode
global footer/headers (quit working right)
stop forum spam

I tested it in every theme including the default SMF theme and it is the same with all themes, I tested it with my admin account and a clone regular account with regular only chosen.....regular with global mod ticked under it and then as the main group with global mod as the main group

all resulted the same way.

Any ideas or is there a mod to install or get a button for the posting window for html so they can click the center button then the html button then just enter their code?

---------------------------------------

ANOTHER question is is there a way to get the "move" to go in reverse ( from right to left) or up and down?

There is no error message given either and the image is what it should look like, since I tried it here and it did the same thing.

Thanks for any help.

Hi DarkAngel. Unfortunately, forum posting is SMF, regardless of whether TP is installed or not.. or any other mod. Unless it has modified the SMF forum posting/topic code.

But, under:

Admin > Posts and Topics > Bulletin Board Code > Enable basic HTML in posts (?): [   ]

Clicking the ?:

Quote

This will allow the posting of some basic HTML tags:
<b>, <u>, <i>, <s>, <em>, <ins>, <del>
<a href="">
<img src="" alt="" />
<br />, <hr />
<pre>, <blockquote>

In order for you, the admin to post HTML code, you'd need to first enter the BBC HTML tag:

[html]

<HTML CODE HERE>

[/html]

I think that general members will have any other HTML filtered by SMF as a security feature.. and you'll need to ask at SMF. They probably wouldn't recommend that you allow general members to be able to post anything more than that because you open yourself up to hacking opportunities.

You could, however, set up a Test block, Center, Top.. perhaps, and give that one block the permissions to enable some of your members to insert HTML / PHP / JavaScript etc (depending on block type set).. but again, it's still a security concern. We wouldn't take any responsibility if you were to allow any additional members access, it's your call.

I thought so too but as I said most times they see TP installed and right away say to come here...lol

I do not let members into the blocks so no worry there...but this is in the forum topics posted that they can not get the html bracket part to stay even when copy/pasted into the the posting window...when they hit the post button it automatically strips the html code brackets out

thanks

As I said, the posts and topics are part of SMF, regardless.

As for blocks, they can have editing permissions Per Block, but it does only cover:

Quote
Choose your extra membergroups that can edit this block only.

Note that "manage_blocks" and "admin" permission always give this right regardless.

You will need to take this up with SMF if you want to go further into it.. Or set up a test site where some members have Admin permissions.

I missed the second question.

Have a look here:
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,7893.0.html

I'm know the link is dead, but see if the other suggestions help any.

Ignore any warnings about the page, we are aware that Aku's avatar is externally hosted, causing the problem.
