Please forgive me if this has been suggested already, or if I've missed an implemented feature, but here are 2 things that I would find incredibly useful:
1) A view counter and/or comments for articles.
2) Ability to use BBC code in articles.
Cheers

Number 2 is def. a must and will be in. Number 1 is interesting..a way to keep track of popular pages/articles?
Exactly yeah.
Also, a multipage supporto should be userful ;)
You can fudge that already, create multiple articles and link directly between them. It's a kludge but works OK.
Ok, but it's too uncomfortable!! Some tag like [newpage] should be great!

Yes, I do this as well to give me "layers" of articles.
What I would find really helpful would be to have the article number show up in the articles admin area. At the moment, if I need to find out an article number so I can link it to another article (especially when I don't write the articles at the same time) I have to log into my Hosting Control Panel and look it up in the table using phpMyAdmin.

This will be done.
Thank you, Bloc :)

Also got more improvements for articles onboard..but I leave that to when its more complete. ;)
Tease ;)
A default "recent articles" bloc would be cool too to go. ;)
I would like to see articles act more like Blocks if it's possible...
If I leave the settings default they don't show on my black backgrounded site. But when I edit the settings to show in black then they don't show well with a white backgrounded theme...
The block's don't do that. They look sweet all the time.. ;D
Showing articles in a block will be in, and the "recent articles" is quite nice, I will look into that.
hm, what else..oh yeah, how about bbc based articles, icons that is set in the category, links to all other articles in the article's category, calling a block inside a html article..?
No promises though :)
As I'm new to TP, my request may be redundant, but:
HTML - I would find it very useful to be able to paste html into an article, instead of text (or php, which I merely cope with, poorly). If this is not yet possible, then I think this added ability would greatly enhance TP.
Just turn off the wysiwyg editor first(in "tpadmin/settings"), and you can do this. :)
I had a feeling that you had provided this facility somehow, somewhere - TP is just the sweetest cms. Many thanx!
some good discussion about commenting I don't want to forget about :)!

oh, yes. I haven't forgotten it. :) This thing will also be easier to add if the articles base code works better.
Bloc, I just wondered whether you'd had chance to tackle any of these suggestions at all? Presumably we'd be looking at the next release anyhow? Is the next release set to coincide with SMF 1.1 ?
no, it will follow its own course. And yes, these things will be in the next release. Some of them already are at works on this site.
I posted in the referenced thread when I was a real noob to SMF/TP and now I'm not so sure enabling comments to the article system is such a good thing.
I was thinking with my BLOG hat on and saw the potential of using the article systems for blog entries. Although I'm sure that potential is there, I'm now thinking (minimalistic) blogging could (should?) be done within the existing SMF system with changes to some sorting algorithms (chronlogical) and theme changes (show N messages more like BoardNews) instead of showing a page full of subjects only like a forum.
Most portals system that try to roll their own BLOG get flamed almost as bad as portal systems that try to roll their own forums.
Stay the course Bloc - do what you think is best for the article system.
I agree it would be great if articles had some of the features thats blocks have. It would be nice if we could limit the member groups that can see articles.

Yes, please.

Definitely. :)
