Title: Block problem 2 fold
Post by: scott_t on June 21, 2009, 05:12:17 PM
Hello It has been a long while since I've been by. Just cannot seem to stop my interest in TP and SMF.....Thought fishing would overtake all other hobbies, guess not. Tech geek at heart.

Anyhow I have TinyPortal v1.0 beta 4 running on SMF 1.1.9. It seems to be working 100%, except 2 issues that are making me a bit insane.

First I cannot get the shoutbox to show. I tried it in a block, but that leads to issue 2, any blocks I create are not showing up. Membergroups are correct, and admin cannot even see them.

If I disable an existing block, like 'stats' it goes away, and when I re-enable it it comes back fine.

THe way I found this out was I was trying to get a coppermine block working, and I read all the threads with the php snippets etc and the blocks just never show, not even with an error, just no blocks like they are not turned on.

I know in the past using Gallery 2, if I messed up the php for the block, the block would show with an error in it.

Now with coppermine or the shoutbox, I get no block at all.

Any advise appreciated.

Additionally the reason I tried to activate shoutbox was to test out the blocks. I'd like it, but really the coppermine blocks were the main point.

Also I swapped out themes, back to default to make sure it was not a theme issue. Same result regardless of theme.

Thanks again,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Welcome back to TinyPortal.

In TP 1.0 beta 4, blocks are defaulted to not show anywhere when you first create them.  This is so you can select where to show them.  In order to get them to show where you want you need to set the visual options.  To do that, look at the bottom of the edit screen for the block and you will see this ...
Choose where the block should appear. [Show] [Hide]

Click [Show] and the visual options will expand and allow you to make your selection.  See the image below.  LMK if this fixes it for you.

Your the man. What a simple answer. More amazing is the coppermine php block, the first one worked right off. Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

NP.  Glad to help.  I think you'll like this version very much once you get used to it.  It is more intuitive and much more powerful than previous versions.  I will mark this topic solved.
