Title: Error involving new theme installation
Post by: MLJat24K on June 19, 2009, 07:33:28 PM
I posted the following message in the simplemachines.org support section of their forum:

I have recently installed SMF Forum Version: SMF 1.1.9

It seemed to be working fine, then I started looking for new themes and found one that I like, called "Triton". I installed that after searching thru this website to find the code for it. It took a little finagling to get it to install and ever since that time I have been noticing error messages.

Here is one pretty typical error message: Call to undefined function tportal_version() ... Load.php(1730) : eval()'d code on line 327

I'm thinking that something didn't quite install right and now I am left with a situation where I have error messages that collect in my error log basically whenever anything is done on the Forum and I seem to be unable to register any new users.

Any help?
Thank you

And I got this answer:

That's a Tiny Portal error.  Your best bet would be to ask them for advice, Bloc who designed the theme, is also the admin of TP. Check it out at http://tinyportal.co.uk

Is there any help for this prolem?

So, are you running TinyPortal on your forum? If not, you need to download the other version of the theme.

I'm not sure if I'm running TP, here's a copy of my "theme_info.xml" file:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<theme-info xmlns="http://www.simplemachines.org/xml/theme-info" xmlns:smf="http://www.simplemachines.org/">
        <!-- Theme name, used purely for aesthetics. -->
        <name>Triton</name>
        <!-- Author: Bloc -->
        <author name="Bloc">bloc@tinyportal.co.uk</author>
        <!-- Website... where to get updates and more information. -->
        <website>http://www.simplemachines.org/</website>
        <!-- Template layers to use, defaults to "main". -->
        <layers>main</layers>
        <!-- Templates to load on startup.  Default is "index". -->
        <templates>index</templates>
        <!-- Base this theme off another?  Default is blank, or no.  It could be "default". -->
        <based-on></based-on>
      <version>1.1</version>
      <id>bloc:triton</id>
</theme-info>

That sounds like it might be the problem, I'm just not sure. I looked around thru different themes that they were offering and chose that "Triton" theme. Then I had to go to this website or the SMF site to get the files to download and I had to upload them thru my FTP client and I'm just not sure it loaded right and I'm not sure what the problem is.

I wish I'd never downloaded this theme, I wish I could just get back to where I started, but I'm not sure how.

It would seem like when they showed you themes that you could just plug them in.

I'm not sure what to do next.

Maybe the best thing would be to just scrap my forum and start all over?

TP is a portal package, the thing we make and support on this site.
If you dont know if you have TP installed, then you probably havent so the error is what ichbin said, wrong theme version, you have to use the one he linked to.

OK, thanks for the info -- it's been a while & I could stumble thru it again, can you tell me what I upload? Is it everything inside that zip file?

Just download the zip file Ichbin linked to and then browse your forum admin and themes and layout settings, install new theme ( upload the zip file through there ) click install and there it is :)
Just set your forum to Default core before you upload the zip and install it.

Thanks G6, I will give that a shot. :)

OMG, that was so easy! I knew I had to be doing something wrong -- install it thru the Admin tools, not thru your FTP client!  ::)

Wow, that was so smooth and easy!

I appreciate the help. Everything works great now & the error messages have stopped! Now, I may get fancy and go in thru my FTP client and clean out the unneeded files.

Thanks a lot G6, IchBin and everyone here.  8)
