Title: Beta 4 upgrade problems
Post by: mc on June 05, 2009, 07:33:01 PM
I've been pulling my hair out for the past 2+ hours, trying to upgrade a site from SMF1.1.8 + TP1 beta3, to SMF1.1.9 + TP1 beta4.

Have finally got the SMF 1.1.9 installed and working, but whenever I try manually installing the TP files, all I get is a blank page.

Looking at the source, all that's getting sent is the basic HTML tags -
Quote<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>

So far I've tried reuploading all the TP files, and have double checked I've made all the file modifications as per the guide.

One problem I've got is tp_install.php will not run.
All I get is a Hacking Attempt message.

Has anybody got any ideas?

If you get a hacking attempt, eather you have wrong permissions to the files and folders, OR you have a htaccess file that doesent like what you are trying to do there.

Check the permissions, 755 for all folders and 644 for all files.
If they are set correctly, check ( or remove with backups to add back after install is done ) the htaccess files so they are not changed from defaults

Now I've got something a bit weird.

I've just been swapping files around to try and get tp_install.php to run, and have just realised that if I swap all the files in the Sources dir back to non-modified versions, the site works, albeit without the relevant parts the modified files provide (ie. the TP options are missing from admin).

Have also just been comparing the Beta 4 tp_install.php, with the Beta 3 version.
And have noticed my database seems to of been updated, as 'version' in the tp_settings table is set to 1082 (beta 3 tp_install sets it to 105).

Also checked file permissions, and they all seem ok.
Also there's no .htaccess in the forum directory, but I've never had htaccess problems with thie site before  :-\

Site now mostly working, but I'm not sure what I done to make it work.

Only issue I've got left is that the Babylon theme doesn't work.
On the front page, the main content and right hand bar are missing, and when I try to view a forum board, or thread, I get the following error -
QuoteUnable to load the 'TPtagboardsGeneral_above' template.

It sounds to me like you did not get a complete install of TP.

If you haven't and you may have but just in case try: How do I manually install TinyPortal (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=29).

Also, for us to help you more Please read the Posting Guidelines.html (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,581) and provide the requested info.

I'm not sure what happened, as normally things go quite smoothly.

I've traced the theme issue to changes in the TP related theme files.
I use customised versions of babylon, and I've got customised versions of TPBlockLayout.template.php and TPBlocks.template.php, which I never updated.

Just need to tweak the TP blocks back into shape, and hopefully everything is back to normal.

Let us know how it turns out.

Things seem to be back to how they should be.

Copied the TPBlockLayout and TPBlocks template files across, modified to get the blocks back to how they were before, and all errors are gone.
