Title: How do I upload images for an article in beta 4?
Post by: tupsi on May 27, 2009, 12:40:24 PM
Hello

I just moved my TP from .98 to 1beta4 and now I am having a hard time uploading images to my articles because the former option seems gone (upload an image).

All I can see now under the editor box is a line

"Upload a new image into the quick-list" with a Browse Button, but if I enter an image there from my hd nothing happens. Shouldnt there be some kind of "submit" button in order to upload that image to that mention quick list?

Or I am just totally clueless how it is done now, so if anyone can bring me up to speed, that would be most appreciated.

Thanks

After you have browsed the image scroll down to the 'Save' button and see if that gives you what you need.

of course not. That button saves the article and I only get me

Thanks for your submission.

The article will become active as soon as an administrator has approved it.

which is not really what I aimed for :-)

So if there is no real way to do it, I might even file a bug report on bugtracker for this, but still I am unsure if its even possible to upload images, but the "My Images Quicklist" somehow gets me the impression that it should be possible somehow.

After uploading the image and hitting save when making a HTML article you will then have a row below the article with the picture you added via the images quicliist. Clicking on that image inserts it into the article. You can also upload a picture thru the editor by using the "image" button which is between "link" and "table" on the second row of buttons in the html editor.

Indeed. You NEED to press save for the image to upload, its not enough to just browse for it. Once done, it shows in the quicklist, as Renegd98 explains.

So not a bug, but as a new feature: uploading images though AJAX, so the page doesn't need to be saved/reload each time.

ok...let there be light!

After your response I tried it out a bit more and found the following:

If I EDIT an article (url is like ?action=tpadmin;sa=editarticle129) the feature works as you guys explained it.

If I submit a NEW article (url is like ?action=tpmod;sa=submitarticle) I get the above mentioned response that its now ready to get approved by an admin, but I do NOT return to the article.

I found it again after visiting the profile of the Editor. There under TinyPortal/Articles, the article was listed. Editing it showed a strange filled out options (see screenshot). After I hit the radio button for hrml article and saved, then I was able to upload pictures as you described. Before then it seemed like TP had saved the article like an external one as there was a box to enter a link, but I def. started the whole article as an html one.

ok (Rolle rückwärts).

Problem solved. After reiterating the whole process I managed to find out that I used the wrong url/action to start the whole process (=submitarticle instead of =addarticle). Guess its a relic of my ancient .98 times.

Anyway, thanks for the replies, its all good now and thanks for the wonderfull piece of software!

I haven't even used the new editor.. I know.. slack. I have no clue what it looks like, I probably only used the WYSIWYG, FCK editor twice.. I don't get on with them, TP or MySpace.. and that one sux, MySpace that is, and I'm no coder.

Glasses.. maybe. I have no reason to have members posting articles, so I don't understand what problems there are with sites that do have member articles. For me, they are pages... I can't trust most members to center an image, let alone layout an entire page.. :P

sorry to spill the milk here, but I think the problem is only solved for people having "manage article" rights. If you try to submit an article without that right via the user block "Submit Article" link you end up with the problem I described here:

It def. is a potential problem area, it needs to be rethinked - both the submission procedure as well as image uploading.

Hi all,

I cant seem to upload images at all - no quicklist, no browse button or anything. Ive attached a couple of screenshots, am I missing something silly?

Don't know why, but the image uploading section only appears after you save the article. So if you create an article and hit save, once the page refreshes it will show the image upload part.

Hi Ich,

It isn't the case for me. If I go to an exisiting article it still doesnt give me any additional functionality.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

Many-MANY people cannot code. I can do HTML, but php causes my eyes to glaze over and little puffs of smoke to come out of my ears. My problems are more in that the new editor/image uploader only gives you access to YOUR art, so my assistants have to either copy all MY main art and re-upload it (oh joy, TONS more disk space wasted) or... well, nothing really. I see no good solution. W? the FCKEditor, I had all my art arranged in folders, by time period (history site) and they could easily find the stuff. Now, we have chaos. :-(

Yeah, I don't really want them submitting articles. I don't trust them, they mess it up. They want to upload 20mb pix. NO! But it's hard when the  site staff has problems.
