I haven't tried it yet but here is something from that site:

Here's what you'll need to get started:

    * Download the Gmail voice and video chat plug-in, quit all open browser windows, and install the plug-in.
    * Sign in to Gmail.
    * In the Chat section of your Gmail, select the contact you want to call. If they have a camera icon next to their name, you can make a voice or video call to them; just click Video & more.

If your friend doesn't have a camera next to their name in your chat list, you can invite them to download the Gmail voice and video chat plug-in from the Video & more menu in a chat window. Even if your friend doesn't have a video camera, you can still have a voice chat or a 1-way video chat.

Not sure if the other person also needs a gmail account or not...

Jeff,

I don't know much about GMail as I don't use it.  However, I use Skype.  I have a camera that I haven't hooked up yet but for now I can make voice only calls free to anybody else that has Skype or I can make inexpensive calls to any other phone.  Once I have the webcam installed I will be able to use it to have video chats with anybody else that has Skype.  It works pretty well so far, especially for voice calls.

It doesn't cost anything if you are calling somebody else with Skype.

Thanks guys,

@ ZAR<
i have heard of Skye , never saw it or used it ... seems pretty good as you described above ... I really don't call anyone , but I sometimes chat with a old friend , thing is they only have PC access while at work and ââ,¬Å"theyââ,¬Â block everything or anything ââ,¬Å"they noticeââ,¬Â .. no PC @ home.. so i was trying to find a work around just for that reason (only)

.. i reckon I'm out of luck on this .... Oh well .....

Skype I think became a paid software, I dunno if that is for certain features...but I have used the Gmail IM and gotta say it's great!!!
I use it to chat with my dad and for him to see his grandson :)

similar to yahoo and msn messengers...but the cool thing with Gmail is you can also do it on the page for your email, so if they are online you can just chat right there

Skype is still free.

There is a 'paid' component available, but you only need it if you want to call someone's telephone... if you call from PC-to-PC the call is free to anywhere.

Lesmondâ„¢ and I talk 2-3 times a week for free, he in England & me in the US.
... me also talks to me dear old Mom almost every day and enjoy her visage on her webcam, I gotts to get me one of those.  :coolsmiley:

Yes, I use Skype as well and it's very good.  It only costs something if you are trying to call someone who doesn't have Skype installed, like a cell hone or a land line.

Ah! I remember when the first started charging for it and thought that was the way it was...at least back then, about 5 years ago.
