O.k. I have searched through the forums and found several articles about the article submission process but none of them seem to answer my question. I am currently running the latest version of TP with smf 1.1.8. My problem is that under TP>articles and categories>submissions there are no boxes to check to allow groups to submit articles. No options whatsoever there any help would be appreciated.
Admin>Members>Permissions>Permissions by Membergroup>Group
You have the following with check boxes:
TinyPortal Articles
Submissions are always approved
Can submit HTML articles
Can submit BBC articles
Can edit own articles
Thanks for the reply. I have tried checking those boxes with no joy. When a member goes into profile>tiny portal>articles they have two tabs on top, articles and settings but no option to post. Perhaps I am missing something here, it wouldn't be the first time :idiot2:
The options to post are not in the profile. They are in the user box.
Soooo... What is a user box? Remember this is me --> :idiot2:
OK got the user box thingy, I wasn't using it before. I have the following boxes checked
Can submit HTML articles
Can submit BBC articles
Can edit own articles
With these checked registered users still seem to be unable to post I only saw those options when I accidentally checked the box next to manage articles. I obviously don't want that since they have access to delete anyones articles apparently. Also I don't want to use the submissions always approved options since that won't be the case. Am I stuck using these options whether I like them or not?
vgmojo,
When JP Deni is referring to the userbox, she's talking about a block that you can place on your Forum like the one to the left and at the top here that says User above it. If your members have the right permissions, they will see links in that user block to be able to do the things you want them to be able to do. For instance, have a look at the image below ...
In essence, this means that I have permission to do those 3 things and if I click one of them, it will take me to the right place to do that.

But remember, those options do not show up in the userbox for the admin of the site, but will for everyone else. The admin has articles management access.

That's interesting.. I never realised that, been using StormLrd's multi tab block for so long now.
Yes, Stormlrd's multi-user block doesn't use the same code for the user tab as what is used in the user block now. I've been meaning to do something about that for awhile on my site as I use Storm's block as well.
The current user block will have something like this in it if you have full permissions.

Also, there is a bug that will hide the submit article link if you are not allowing uploads.

I think he's got the userbox thing worked out.

If you want a group to be able to submit articles, for that groupput a checkmark by "Can submit html articles" or "Can submit BBC articles" or both. If you don't want that group to be able to edit or delete other articles, do not put a checkmark by "Can manage articles."
If users can't submit articles unless "manage articles" is checked, then there is a problem. I know that it's not a bug with TP, though, because I have permission to submit html and bbc articles, but I can't manage articles.
Thanks guys, Petee hit it on the head  The whole allow upload thingy seems to have done the trick. Interesting though that the upload link leads to a 404 page which is good as far as I am concerned since I don't want people uploading stuff anyway :P Thanks again folks.
OK one more thing. I have decided to just go ahead and put the article in a block. When I choose the single article option and put it in a block it only says the authors name and rating but doesn't show the article. As you can see in the first image where in the area that says testing area. The second issue that appears happens when I click on an article title when I have the articles from category listed. Anytime I choose an article it shows up low on the page like in the second image below. Any help would be appreciated.
Does it do the same in Default Core theme ?
Checked the core theme and got the same problem. It seems that the problem is limited to BBC articles as HTML articles seem to work much better. So I will just use HTML. One other question though, when I set an HTML article on the front panel in a block it doesn't show the title even though it has been checked in the options. And secondly, is there a way to simply lead list the articles or article categories on the front panel? I know you can list articles by category but that seems to only show one category at a time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks again.
Edit: Removing the right panel seems to have solved most of the problems on both counts. I should be good for now, thanks for the help!
