I have begun this new topic which branches off from the 'shoutbox gone wacko' board.
1-] I was getting errors telling me that my databases needed upgrading to the version I was using on the forum which was 1.1.8.
2-] I attempted using the upgrade package, all did not go well. It stopped before completing the upgrade. Or updating my database.
3-]Fantastico offered an upgrade options and knowing it would backup my files, I proceeded.
4-] Of course, it un-installed all mods and I decided to go back to Beta 1.
5-] Doing so lost all recent posts.
6-] I followed the directions, un-zipped the backup to my computer and by way of Coffee Cup FTP, uploaded the files, after removing the files which were there.
7-] I then attempted to import the backup.sql file by MyAdmin into the database. It was too large and kept timing out.
8-] I enlisted my host help and they imported the file for me.
9-] OK, the forum was back but certain images was showing red Xs.
10-] I corrected that by uploading the images from my un-zipped backup on my computer.
11-] I am still getting the database errors because my database was never upgraded and I am too uncertain to attempt it again.
12-] Then, I noticed that my shoutbox was gone and producing sparse errors.
End of Horror Story!
I was unaware that every time you updated SMF to its latest version through your admin section of the forum that it did not update your databases as well. Had, I known this would cause me the problems it had, I would never had updated the forum software and stayed with the version that matched my database.
Any solutions?
1. Fantastico is the last resort to go ( thought we went through that the last time your forum broe compleatly )
2. What other mods besides TP do you have ? We cannot help you with any other issues the TP ones.
3. Best would be to download the BIG upgrade package from SMf forums and replace ALL old files with new ones and get the forum back to basics and then install TP beta3 ( as thats the version you used when things broke )
Leave all backups, they are no good at all now, to messy to even think of use in any way.
1. Download SMF big upgrade version 1.1.8 and follow the SMF guides on simplemachines.org.
2. When the forum is up and running ( Offcourse with NO other themes etc but Default Core ) Come back here and we will help you install TP.
When you have SMF and TP running, you have to seek help from the other mod creators and ask them to help you solve the issues with them.
I can not add anything to what G6 said except to emphasize the following ...
1. Don't EVER Use Fantastico to upgrade an SMF Forum. It almost NEVER works.
2. You Can't downgrade to a previous version of SMF ant TP without having a backup of your previous database to restore.

One other thing, too:

That error message should not exist. I get it from time to time and the source of the problem has always been programming, not a need for an upgrade. Once you get your forum troubles figured out, should you see that error message again, ignore it. It's meaningless.
Thanks for your words of wizdom, wish I had known this long time ago.
Thanks Carina, and you are so right about having lost my first roleplaying forum. Being the novice that I am, I assumed that Fantastico was worth what it claimed, guess not. But still, I am no programmer and thus must rely on others and manuals to aid me. When it comes to coding, I have no experience.
So;
1-] put forum into maintance mode.
2-] download large upgrade package for SMF 1.1.8
3-]Do I need to un-installed any or all mods? What if there are errors in their removal? Should I proceed or stop?
4-] Do Manual install;
Extract package to my local pc, then upload by way of FTP
Do I need to removed files files that are there or will it overwrite?
5-]How will this upgrade my database? It didn't work before when I ran the upgrade.php, by clicking on the url given in cPanel.

Glad to know that but it is hard to ignor when it halts what you are attempting to do.

I am going to hold off just now because I am copying the story that is being written in Fantasy-Land. I don't care if I lose everything else, I do not want to lose another story.
You NEED to go to simplemachines, org and ask them to help you sort the SMF issues out.
When you have the forum back online, you can come back here for help with TP as thats what we support here.
:) ..Just sayin Hey Marian ,

Hi Jeff. How it goes? ;)
I am reading their manuals even now and will seek out other information from them.
